Recently I took my 6 year old to a dentist that did ALOT of dental work.

He wore a white coat, had all the medical stuff, professional office etc and

a lot of toys, stickers, a language and staff that spoke children. She

didn't like the pain but was not afraid of going to the (that) dentist. She

actually had several teeth pulled.

I also do my practice from my home. I have a completely separate building,

licensed and inspected by the City but it is in a residential area.

Additionally I take care of my daughter (quite often in my office or

appears quite often) I have done this for the last 3 years and soon (July 4

th) we will have another baby. Who will be in my office at times. Patients

take all this into consideration and I believe I lose many otherwise

patients. Even before I see them - so the judgment is not at a skill level.

And there are those patients who say they respect me for my efforts towards

my family and do come back

As for skill level - my mother-in-law and sister-in-law (both from mainland

China) - because their was no pain sensation the first time I needled them

said my technique was bad ! My sister said my technique was bad because it

was too much pain !

My teacher and mentor, Andrew Wu (San Jose, CA) who sees 40 patients a day

has the gift of making each patient feel they are the center of attention,

have all the time in the world, and gives each one attention they need -even

though the techniques are very different.

I think " perception " is the power.

Re: RE: Re: Digest Number 70 White Coat

Many patients are afraid of white coats, and get anxiety from seeing

them.
