Guest guest
A lot of "bloody", "stupid" and "idiots" in your post. Is that necessary? And does that belong on a professional forum? As for Mu Tong, it is not actually Mu Tong which is dangerous. It is if the Aristolochic species (A. manshurensis) is used that it may cause kidney failure (or what is termed Chinese herb nephropathy). As long as Clematis (Clematidis armandii) or Akebia (A. quinata or A. trifoliata) species are used, Mu Tong, even if used for weight control, is not dangerous (I am not saying that it is appropriate). When I for the first time saw the list of the banned products in the UK, I was a bit shocked that the Chinese names where used for banning medicinals, not the species. As we all know, often two or three different species are used for a sinlge Pin Yin name. As a matter of fact, even the Pin Yin name is often differentiated, but this differentiation often does not make it to the West. In case of Mu Tong it did: Chuan Mu Tong is the Stephania sp., Guang Mu Tong the Aristolochia sp. Similar in Mu Xiang. Qing Mu Xiang is Aristolochia, Tu Mu Xiang Inula and Guang Mu Xiang Auklandia. Thank God they haven't done it yet in the UK, but may do. Although with regulation coming into effect in 2005, the govering bodies, of which i have spoken to, are pushing to have animal products and some banned herbs re-instated, like Mu Tong, which is in Long Dan Xie Dan Tang. Mu Tong was banned because some idiots used it in Belgium as a diet supplement, non herbal idiots that is. So i'm all for banned herbs being used, so long as they are used by properly qualified herbalists.Zai jianAttilioChinese Traditional Medicine , "Rev.
