Guest guest
Ni Hao Being in China, close to the province of Guandong, I have been keeping a very close eye on the progress of SARS... Check out the website www.cdc.gov/nc.dod/Sars sorry this computer won't let me send a link. It has the latest updates on research as well. everything you ever wanted to know about SARS, updated regularly. There is not much talk of SARS here in China, perhaps they aren't talking because they don't know much, and because the tracking system is lacking. The implications of what could happen with this virus in a country such as China are vast. In Feb it was reported that 5 people died in Guandong province, after the WHO team went in to the area, they discovered that 34 people had died...Silence isn't necesarilly golden, in fact it feels rather eerie right now. I have been studying in a very busy herb clinic, many people are coming in with coughs, but so far noone has exhibited the major symptoms...high fever*, shortness of breath, headache, fatique, muscular soreness, etc...flulike symptoms. I have had reports of people using ban lan gen as well, but have also heard that it doesn't work... I hope everyone will keep a vigilant eye. I would remind all your patients of the first line of defense, keep washing your hands!!! Marjorie
Guest guest
All, Having just spent the last 2 weeks in Beijing, it would seem that there is indeed a " run " on Ban Lan Gen. While I was at one of several hospitals, patients brought boxes in as gifts to the doctor. I went to a large herbal pharmacy and bought several boxes myself. I didn't think the prices were too high. A large group of us flew home on China Air on Friday and none of us are exhibiting any sx. I did where a surgical mask on the plane though. We shall see.... Guest guest
Happy April Fool's Day .. but this is no joke! Scary it is .. As we all know I am no expert .. but before I got pregnant I seemed to be able to fight off almost everything that was " going around " including strep (even when the person I was intimate with had it!) .. and I have to say that I'd first off try to keep my immune system at a level that is able to fight off most bacterial and viral illness to begin with ...and that includes eating well and making sure there are no vitamin/mineral deficiencies. Then to fight the onset of illness I've always used Echinacea (angustifolia root!), goldenseal root, vitamin c (to bowel tolerance) and oregano oil as the troops in my first line of defense. I have no idea if these would be effective in the fight against this SARS illness, but one consolation is to know that a lot of germies that have become immune to the synthetic anti-biotics are still not immune to the natural versions! In layman's terms it has something in the fact that we can't duplicate 100% of the herbal constituents exactly and that every strain of every plant has just enough of a difference to throw off the evolution of the bacteria (and viruses) just enough that they can't become immune to it - unlike synthetic medications which are identical every time ... But here is my disclaimer - I seem to be sick more often than ever these days (with the pregnancy and all - yet still have managed to remain synthetic antibiotic free for over a dozen years now!) and I believe that it is due to the family getting some kind of virus that is now latent in our systems and while pregnant I wasn't able to really knock it out of my system, and since I am the family guinea pig as far as remedies goes .. I was lax in my fighting of it, and just now I am getting back into the crush, kill, destroy the germies mode *LOL* ... but I have to say I did fight off the last cold (for myself and the hubby and the kids) that tried to get us just a week and a half ago. It is now its trying to get hubby again and I have him on a regimen of herbal/EO concoctions and my 3 yr old is getting preventive meds, and the baby gets whatever I am taking via the milk .... so we shall see if I can eliminate it! And I have rambled enough for one e-mail ... this is certainly a topic worth discussing .. anyone .... ? *Smile* Chris (list mom) PS - Since I live in a very dry climate I also use my humidifier as a diffuser .. I put a piece of tissue impregnated with an EO of my choosing over the fan part of the diffuser and use that to help add moisture and germ killing EO vapors to the air! Back In Business ... Jojoba Co-op Coming This Week!!!! <http://www.alittleolfactory.com> http://www.alittleolfactory.com MICHAEL HOGAN [janetkgolden] Tuesday, April 01, 2003 1:08 PM SARS Greetings all~ I am still on the road, the never ending road trip LOL. If this has been discussed and I missed it please just refer me to the approximate achieve date and I will read and catch up. If not then I am always looking to be prepared as UW has a large international student population and spring breaking is ending, meaning many students will have travelled and will be returning. I am a huge fan of Butch's oregano but I am wondering what else... Respiratory blends of Eucalyptus Glob, radiata, smitthii or citrodora? Perhaps adding lemon, roman chamomile, lavender spike and tea tree? Linden tea? Since this condition is not responding to allopathic meds, I am praying, (it is the reincaratated nun in me) that this is not the plague of this century. Ok bring it on all you wise men and women! Guest guest
Thank you Diana. I was going to post that I would suggest this and maybe the 4 thieves vinegar thingy. I don't have any first hand experience with either one but I think that I would start there if I felt threatened. Guest guest
> Try this recipe for immune system building...it cures what alils ya! > www.curezone.com/schulze/handbook/supertonic.asp I actually make something similar to that myself. Hubby and stepson won't touch it though, and I can't tell you what hubby calls it! LOL Silly man knows it works, tells other people it works, but won't touch it himself. And my stepson not being raised with herbal remedies and cooking with herbs, combined with finicky tastes and being 11, won't touch it either. This stuff is great though because I've had it knock a sinus infection out in a day or two. I'm planning an online herb shop, and one of my " library " sections will be a " herb garden " , where I'll put my recipe (amongst others). Guest guest
All, I suspect that Wen Bing theory may be just fine for diagnosing and treating SARS, but I'll bet that due to the filthy air in modern Chinese cities, with the first cases coming from Foshan, an industrial city in south China, that chronic old phlegm mixed with internal heat leading to severe phlegm-heat may be a major reason for amending formulas. Surely somebody out there can get ahold of a TCM diagnosis from a contact? Joseph Garner >>>Spring-warmth involves latent heat from cold damage in the wintertime, entering the shao yin channel. It can be quite severe in nature, because of the preponderance of internal heat signs. <<<

Guest guest
Hi all, Not to downplay the seriousness of SARS, but to some extent it is another example of the " media " 's drive to sell airtime... keep the viewer/listener hooked so that they watch the next Chrysler commercial. We've all seen the parodies of this time and again on Saturday Night Live, etc. " What common household liquid is killing your children?!? Tune in tonight at 11 for details! " If we all accepted the " news " as what is literally going on in our lives, I suspect we'd all be homebound and ordering our groceries over the phone or online and fearing to venture outside. Last year it was West Nile. As soon as the season comes around, it will be killer pneumonia.... again. When SARS loses its 'commercial' value, I'm sure West Nile will be popping its ugly head up again. More than 680 Americans die per DAY of coronary heart disease without being hospitalized. http://www.americanheart.org/downloadable/heart/1046245460533FS23SDCA3.p df A lot more severe than SARS, no? And something we can see 'happening' daily in our own clinics/offices. How many of your patients are obese or overweight... ? But... it's old news, no? Just my 2 cents, K. Hamill, L.Ac.
