Hello all,

My dog has an autoimmune disease. He was going to a traditional

acupuncturist vet who was a master herbalist who formulated his own

tinctures. He pronounced Lucky pretty kidney deficient (Western tests reveal

normal function) and had him on some kidney jing herbals. Although they

obviously make him feel better (more energetic, etc.) they threw his

autoimmune skin disease OUT of remission. The vet could not figure it out,

he said nothing in the herbal formulation would cause that, but the facts

speak for themselves, and FYI, I do have faith in this vet, he is very well

versed in herbs. I have since stopped all herbals long ago and am working

on the immune system with other modalities. I understand the basics of TCM

and how the kidneys relate to the immune system. I would like to get him on

the basic kidney ying herbals though because I think supporting the kidneys

in old age (he's 12) is important.

What are the good formula's and does anybody know the best place to buy

them? I have found tinctures more absorbable. He is 100 lbs.

This makes sense. Herring's Law of healing -- You heal from the head down, from

inside out in and in the reverse order. ---- eg. The dog is possible in a

healing crisis. The path it took to become kidney deficient may have well been

the auto immune condition. The dog MAY be going " reverse order " down the path.

Recovery will be achieve at the end.

continue strengthen the kidney and support the auto immune condition. Meaning

get to the source of what is causing the auto immune condition. Look for

parasites, worms and the likes also, support with nervine/adrenals herbs or

food. Definitely needs LIVER support. Healing crisis as it is called can usually

occurs when to much to fast is done to rebalance a condition. you can go with it

or reduce dosage to move/ re-balance the condition a little slower.

Hopes this help. PS: I'm western trained Just getting to understanding TCM. So

it is written from that angle. Hope it brings some understanding to you

I understand that, and that makes sense to a point, either that or

that healing modality is not the one for him. He was walking a good

balance and lost control. Since he is an old dog, I prefer to take

things slow. He has SA, an extremely difficult autoimmune disease to

control, no matter what holistic modality is being used. He has been

on a raw diet, minimal vaccs, etc. What finally pulled him out of it

was HSO's soil based organisms and what put him into remission was

Moducare (plant sterols/sterolins) a supplement designed for

autoimmune conditions. He was in remission for over 3 years and then

when kidney herbals (and wind/heat for a few months) were introduced

(and the formula changed a few times) he completely lost control and

ended up on antibiotics (I can suffer through a " healing crisis " , an

old dog should not be allowed to suffer, even his holistic vet wrote

out a rx for abx.) Now I am trying Transfer Factors (educating the

immune system) and am not really looking to heal him via TCM but do

believe in the importance of kidney herbals for him and I know they

did have liver support. I was completely dedicated to the TCM

modality for all my animals but with Lucky and the condition he is

in, I am pulling back and incorporating different things, (more

nutraceutical). SA can only be managed. I would still like to know a

classic kidney herbal formula that I can put him on myself :))

Hi Susie

Just curious, where did you get your Transfer Factor. I was looking for it for

a puppy with parvo & couldn't find it.

Thanks

Lisa
