Guest guest
Wow! You guys are wonderful! I very much appreciate your help. I will attempt to answer some of your questions/comments. I do not have disturbing dreams or sweat at night. My condition was gradual, beginning with waking up in the middle of the night due to fidgeting. I have found that I cannot ever go to bed at a normal time, but must stay up until I am quite exhausted. On rare occasions (perhaps 2-3 x's per month), I am able to take a nap which may last an hour, but usually for about 10 minutes. Surprisingly, I feel somewhat refreshed after those " delicious naps " ! I don't remember the last time I slept for more that 4 hours at a time. I think I am so conditioned to not sleeping that my insomnia appears " normal " . My acupuncturist does examine my tongue and pulse each visit; I will ask her to describe for me. There is a language difficulty, but I am under the understanding that she is " the best " in the Sacramento area. I have tried many vitamin and mineral supplements, to no avail. In fact, I do not feel any different at all while taking them! (I have never tried horsechestnut., will do!) By the way, I have never tried Yoga. I have so very little energy, it is difficult to even prepare meals, or do any activity – much to the disappointment of my family of 8 kids, 3 at home, and 11 grandkids! I have a TENS, which has not worked for me. I also have a machine that " rocks " my ankles side to side (forgot the name)…that made it worse! I have tried eating Potassium foods, etc., at night, but it does not calm me. I cannot lay still. My legs fidget and my feet rub against each other (I have calluses on my knees and feet, which bleed sometimes.) My usual activity is to sit on the floor on my legs. Or kneel and rock from side to side. Or stand and pace around. Or march in place against the wall. It is a miserable existence! This condition is every single night, but occurs often during the day, especially if I am sitting for long periods. Two recent plane rides had me standing at the back or sitting on my knees facing the back!! I stand at movies after 10 minutes of fidgeting, etc. I sometimes take a very hot bath, or massage very hard, which may give some short term relief. Thanks again for all your help! I will continue to try any possible solution. (I'm sorry this was so long…) Shirley
Guest guest
Shirley, Another thing to look into if you are having sleep problems is a sleep disorder. They can determine that if you ask your doctor to recomend a sleep clinic. I believe I recall some persons who suffer from sleep apnea also suffer from restless leg syndrome. My husband is a sufferer of sleep apnea but was diagnosed the hard way. Anyway I am glad he found what caused so many of his problems, one big symptom was acid reflux. He uses a machine that feeds air into a mask that he wears at night. He like it and feels well now. However most persons can't sleep with the mask and tries surgery for their problem. During the sleep study the put electrodes on you everywhere to monitor your impulses. Doesn't hurt none. If you don't get adequate deep levels of sleep your brain will send off disruptive signals during the day. If you think this fits your situation, add this to the things to try. You sound like a candidate for the sleep disorder. It is not that rare or uncommon. My husband only slept 4 hour nights too. Liz D. Guest guest
--- jkcproject <jkcproject wrote: > in place against the wall. It is a miserable > existence! Hi Shirley, I'm sorry that your restlessness makes things so tiring for you. I encourage you to stay with the acupuncturist with the following understnding: If you have a long-standing or severe problem, treatment is sometimes like walking up a muddy, slippery hill, with a strong headwind, in the rain. It can be done, but if your spirit flags, you cannot get to the top! I have treated people with your condition (as severe as you describe), and I have good success, but it _does_ take time, it _does_ take your persistence. Failure in treatment outcome in my experience occurs with an incomplete ourse of treatment. So it's not exactly failure, if you see what I mean. What I have to do is to teach my patients, and I can see that my speaking the same language as them is a distinct advantage, to learn to recognise all of their symptoms (not just the RLS s & s), and to leanr to track them minutely so that they can see the improvements they go through. A most discouraging thing for me, as a doctor, is to see a slowly but very surely improving patient suddenly give up and go try something new. One's speed may only be one mile an hour, but it is sufficient to take one one-thousand miles if one simply puts in the time and effort. I encourage you to keep at it, and to learn as much as you can about your symptoms and how CM looks at them here on this list. Any questions, please ask the forum (or me), I'll do my best to writ more int he next few days. Hugo ______________________ Want to chat instantly with your online friends? Guest guest
Tanveer, The electrodes are used only during the sleep study and they don't send signals into your body they recieve signals your body gives off, like with and EKG. No side effects because they only read your brain impules After my husbands evaluation they set him up with a mask that feeds air into his airway to make sure he is getting enough air he needs. No electrodes needed for recovery. Liz D. Guest guest
I never heard of the electronic massager. Never used it and don't know what it is for. So I can't comment. Sorry. Maybe someone else mentioned it. Liz D. Guest guest
dear s thank you for such interesting and informative reply. we use the same type of electronic massager. it has 6 different functions. it is china made. proved miraculous results. specailly for paralysis, insomnia, arthrtits, diabetes, muscular syndrome etc. we also donot place the mats near the heart and on pulse.i just wanted to cinfirm.the pulse rate is as of a normal person's. thank you again. regards, tanveer SacredQi888 wrote: In a message dated 11/4/03 10:03:35 PM Eastern Standard Time, ammi_pk writes: > electronic > massager on human body. > >warm regards, > >tanveer > I'm not really sure of what you mean there are electric vibrators such as the " Thumper " and other hand held devices on the market. Then there is the Acutron which uses milli current. We were taught a technique this weekend where we put pads on the practitioners hands dorsal side and on the patients face we put pads on the cheeks and forehead. During a non surgical facelift the current passes through both of us to stimulate circulation and move lypmph and other fluids. We set the machine on interferential wave and called it electro-massage. Every one else in the room had a wonderful experience especially the person I was working with. However I personally am very sensitive to TENS units and apparently this interferential wave also. I have a tendency to leave the body with the TENS unit. I reported it to my physician and he says he has never heard of this from any other patient. The mfr says the same thing. I however get pulled out of my body either from the posterior and have the sensation as if I am flying through furniture and walls or I go out the top of my head and I can bounce on the ceiling and watch the people below try to revive me. They say I turn white and breakout in a cold sweat and then collapse. I feel nauseous with tacchycardia and a strange vibrating sensation. Using the acutron I did not leave the body but I felt the palpitations nausea and weird sensations after using it for about 10 minutes and then I wanted the pads off of my hands immediately. I grounded myself and quickly returned to normal feelings. Again I was the only person to feel strange during the session and the person I was working on felt very relaxed and wonderful when we were done. This is a different feeling than when I consciously do astral projection where I come out through the heart chakra and I can go to the ceiling and watch or travel to other places. The containdications given during the training were do not cross the heart area with electricity. Don't use on very weak and debillitated patients as the stimulation may be too strong. Drink a lot of water after the treatment. With the acutron face lift you massage for 2-3 minutes the throat and face area. I hope this helps answer your question.
