Guest guest
Hi, does anyone have a recommendation about how to treat severe restless legs syndrome? My acupuncturist has even communicated with her instructors in China, to no avail. Everything we try is unsuccessful and disappointing. I have had a severe case of RSL with accompanying sleep disturbances for more than 3 years. It affects me each and every night and for increasing periods of the day. I am only able to average 3-5 hours of sleep per 24 hour period, usually between the hours of 6:00am-9:00am. Even then, it is fitful. I was prescribed multiple medications, including l-dopa and Parkinson's meds (Mirapex, sinemet, etc), and they only made me a " zombie " . I have seen my Acupuncturist twice a week for 3 months. She uses acupuncture, cupping " with Moxi " , electric apparatus (not sure what it's called, low current), massage, and herbs. She has mentioned a " internal wind " problem. If someone would like more information, I will be happy to offer as much as you need. I am desperate. I am only 48 years old and this has consumed my life. My neurologist is suggesting that perhaps surgery is the answer. Please help me! Sincerely, Shirley

Guest guest
Shirley, It depends on your other symptoms. It seems you are having insomnia as well. Are you having disturbing dreams? Do you sweat at night time? Really the only person who can work with you on a serious level is someone who you can have personal access to as a practitoner. Where are you located? Perhaps you need to see someone else who can more accurately diagnose your problem. As TCM practitioners we can't diagnose something properly over the internet, because the ultimate deciding features are you tongue and pulse. These need to be seen in person. jkcproject wrote: > Hi, does anyone have a recommendation about how to treat severe > restless legs syndrome? Guest guest
Hi Shirley, I have had RLS for the last 25 years. I haven,t yet found a cure but I did go to a TCM who gave me treatments with a " Tens " machine. This gives electrical stimulation to the calf muscles. She also gave me accupuncture as a general immune booster. I found that this actually gave me some relief. I had to stop the accupuncture due to unrelated complications. The way I deal with my RLS is whenever my legs start in on me , I get out of bed, have something to eat like a banana (potassium) or a slice of bread and butter . I also walk around for a while to get my blood circulating. I think this, plus the food increasing my blood sugar helps to calm the nerves down. I'll often change sleeping beds , such as sleeping on the sofa or another bedroom if you have one. I am the same as you with only 3-5 hours sleep. I am retired now so if I have a particularly bad night I try to catch up by sleeping in until 9 am. Like you I get my best sleep after 5-6:00 am. Guest guest
Have either of you tried horsechestnut? My husband had a mild case of restless leg syndrome but seemed to be caused by poor circulation from varicose veins. From the reading I did at the time there are a couple of herbs that work similarly and they are herbs that help reduce numbness in diabetics as well. Your symptoms sound very severe and I don't class you with my husbands case but who knows what might work? LIz D. Never attempt a DIY Kundalini Yoga with a book you buy from a bookstore. Regards,
