You say he " suffered from migraines " (past tense), so I don't know if he still has this problem. If he does, I'd like to share my experience with you. For 30 years now (I'm 43) I've suffered from cluster migraines -- several SEVERE headaches per day & night, for several days, and then nothing for 6-8 months, or once even up to a year ... and then they come back. My husband suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and he started seeing a Chinese acupuncturist a couple months ago. I have so many annoying issues, I followed him. This doctor started treating me for the headaches and sinus problems and I was doing great, but the best thing I've gotten from him so far is the accupressure trick he taught me to use right at the onset of a migraine. (I used to reach for the Imitrex nasal spray.) I rub my temples in a circular motion, for about 20 seconds, and then, one at a time, I squeeze the flesh in between the thumb and the index finger, firmly, counting to 30, and then the other hand. By the time I'm squeezing one hand, I already a sense of relief washing over me. It's amazing to me to be able to ward off a migraine with a simple procedure ... and to think of all the years of suffering such intense pain ... feeling like a blade of ice steel cutting through my head. ARGH! I hope I never again have to go through that. Perhaps your friend would be willing to try this procedure. Guest guest
HI The best remedy for migranes is very simple and easy and costs not a single penny. WHEN SOME ONE SUFFERS FROM MIGRANE THE he/she should take 3 towels and dip them in ice cold water. wring onw towel and wrap around head like a bandage and not like a cap. just as measure the circumference. dont cover the head just wrap like a bandage. 2nd towel around the neck and 3 rd towel around both feet.it wont take more than 10 mintes to didmish the acute killing migrane. wish you all health and happiness, tanveer and soak Betina Frisone <betinafrisone wrote: John -- >>I have a friend who suffered from migraines. I believe it will work when the Root is Wind Heat and maybe for some other Roots. (Liver Yang Rising?) In my particular case, I did acupressure and applied heat to Small Intestine 3 (on the hand) and Bladder 23 just below the waist on the back. Sometimes the points that are best for knocking out a headache aren't even near the head. Weird, but it works that way. Some migraine sufferers notice that one hand (or foot) gets colder than the other prior to an attack on that side of the body. If the hand is warmed up in these cases, the migraine can be prevented. Put a glove on or immerse the hand in warm water or wrap a heating pad around it. The migraines preceded by one hand or foot getting colder than the other probably are due to Wind Cold invading. They were in my case.

The operative word here is " many " . It does wonders for some migraine sufferers but can make others sicker. Remember the TCM concept of treating Hot and Cold imbalances with the opposite. Cool those who are too Hot; warm those who are too Cold. If you add heat to a person who is too Hot you make them sicker and increase the symptoms and signs of Heat imbalance. Likewise if you cool a person who already is too Cold even more, you make that person sicker. Some people are unusually sensitive to environmental conditions in general and to specific environment condiitons ( " Pernicious Evils) in particular. Any extremes in weather and sudden sharp changes in weather tend to bother me, but I'm particularly vulnerable to Cold and Wind. What causes a person to be so sensitive to Exterior Pernious Evils (weather conditions, etc.)? The number one cause is weak Protective Qi. Protective Qi circulates at the surface of the body and gives people protection against Exterior Pernicious Evils. The pores are opening and closing as they should and some other things are going on that gives the person resistence. If Protective Qi is Deficient, the person is very vulnerable to invasion by Exterior Pernicious Evils. Long-term Kidney Yang Deficiency and Blood Deficiency also cause a person to be sensitive to Exterior Pernicious Evils. It's not unusual to find all three factors in a person who is extremely weather sensitive. I had all 3 Deficiencies. Because of the long-term Kidney Yang Deficiency I was extremely sensitive to cold in particular in the environment. I was so sensitive that just the cooling from the sweat evaporating off my skin could trigger a severe headache. I'm right-handed, and if I failed to dry my hair thoroughly on the left side after I washed it, that triggered a headache on the left side. (Most of my migraines were on the right side for some reason, but that's an example of when I used to get headaches sometimes on the left.) Wrapping a cold towel around any part of me would have triggered muscles over-contracting and made my headaches worse. Any time I chilled in the least, that triggered a headache. Heat eased my headaches. I just didn't know where to put the heat for several years. For a lot of years I got some relief from heating pads to the head and neck. Instead of a severe headache lasing days, it was gone in a day or two once I went to bed and used heating pads over the head and neck. One day by accident I discovered that when the heating pad was put elsewhere on my body, it would knock a headache out in seconds. One day I woke up with a mild headache, but because it was a nice day I wanted to go out and garden. After a couple of hours of gardening and working a lot of muscles, I knew I'd better use the big heating pad or my muscles would be stiff later. It was a big pad but I still had to move it around to get different areas of my body. The moment I placed it over the lower back, the headache that had been getting worse since that morning started easing. It was gone in seconds! At the time I didn't know anything about acupoints. But after a few more successes with knocking out migraines in seconds or at most minutes that used to hang on for a day or two and which a shot of Demerol in the emergency room wouldn't knock out, I knew I was onto something. (Later when I started to learn TCM, I learned why what I was doing was so effective.) In general, if adding heat helps and adding cold hurts, a person is probably suffering from a Cold imbalance. If adding cold helps and adding heat makes the person sicker or more uncomfortable, the person probably suffers from a Heat imbalance. Apply the opposite to balance out the person. For those new to TCM, the earliest messages in the message section are the most basic and will walk a person through the basics of TCM. There are some posts specifically about Hot and Cold, and about Yin and Yang. In general, Yang warms, activates, and dries. Yin cools, calms, and moistens. Hot and Cold can be Deficiency Heat (Yin Deficiciency) and Deficiency Cold (not enough Yang to warm the body properly). Hot and Cold also can be due to Excess. For example the weather is too hot and the body develops heat stroke. Or the person eats too many herbs and foods with warming thermal energy. Excess problems are caused by there being too much of something; Deficiency problems are caused by there not being enough of something. (There's also a post on Excess and Deficiency. I'm going into some basics in this post because some of the list members reading this are new to TCM.) Problems can be Exterior or Interior. In TCM the term " Exterior " as applied to the body means the head, neck, arms, legs, skin, muscles, bones, and meridians. " Interior " means the trunk of the body, in particular the internal Organs. Any Exterior Pernicious Evil can invade the body, going from the Exterior to the Interior. Pernicious Evils include Heat, Cold, Dampness, Dryness, and Wind. TCM pays a lot more attention to environment factors in health and sickness than Western medicine does. If a person already is suffering from an Interior Deficiency, the person is going to be more vulnerable to that condition in the environment. Like in my case I had trouble warming up because I lacked enough Yang. It had to get up in the 80's F before I felt comfortable, and even then I could still have episodes of feeling cold and needing a quilt. It was even harder to warm up when the temperature got into the 60's F. I was practically catatonic when it got to the 40's. In general, if the headache is due to Cold, add Heat. If the headache is due to Heat, add Cold. One thing I remind students of is that just because a condition is Exterior (head, neck, arms, legs, muscles, meridians) and has not yet progressed to the Interior, that does NOT mean that the condition isn't extremely painful and debilitating. For example arthritis (Painful Obstruction Syndrome or Bi Syndrome) is an Exterior condition and it can be extremely painful and debilitating. (The Chinese see POS as being due to invasion by Cold, Damp, and/or Wind. When the Pernicious Evil becomes trapped, it can turn into Fire, and you have cases of " Hot " arthritis (redness around the affected joint). Common English words that have special meaning in TCM are capitalized so readers know that the TCM definition applies. For example, blood and Blood are not exactly the same thing. In TCM Blood moistens and nurtures, and the concept isn't restricted to just physical blood. In general TCM is more concerned with function than with anatomy. TCM " Organs " are sets of functions. For example, many of the functions performed by the adrenal glands come under the concept of the Kidneys in TCM. The Kidneys are said to " open into the ears " . Whenever a person has problems with the ears or hearing, suspect and rule in or rule out Kidney imbalance. The Liver " opens into the eyes " so whenever a person has problems with the eyes or vision, suspect and rule in or rule out Liver imbalance. The Spleen in TCM includes many of the functions of the pancreas.

Guest guest
To All Who Read This, Both of these remedies work. I have used them and relief was received in each case. Remember and don't forget, what works for one may not work for another. So experiment and see if the one doesn't work then try the other. Here is another I use for this problem and has been successful also. I massage the area around the medulla oblongata and the base of the skull especially the place where the pressure is the hardest it will go away. Thanks Ray Tanveer Rauf <ammi_pk wrote: many people who suffered from migrane tried this method and got releived. tanveer victoria_dragon <victoria_dragon wrote: > The best remedy for migranes is very simple and easy and costs not a single penny.
