This is a great question I also wonder about lipoma. Is it jitsu or

kyo? I would think that it is not a stagnation but an exess!? Is it not?

In TCM Qi Stagnation and Blood Stasis are classified as Excess.

Phlegm, another Excess, also is capable of producing nodules and

tumors.

The nodules seem in Qi Stagnation come and go, waxing and waning in

size. Also, they may move around. A good example are swellings and

nodules in a woman's breast right before her period. They disappear

aftr the period starts. (One of the possible Roots of PMS symptoms

is Qi Stagnaiton. BTW, the Liver meridians run through the area of

the breasts.)

First thing that I would do is read up on the concept of a phlegm

nodule. Basically, its a collection of phlegm which can be treated in

much the same way as we address phlegm.

Depending on the patient, this treatment could include warming up the

Kidneys or strengthening the Spleen. It could also be considered a

Liver issue if the Kidney and Spleen looks okay. When Qi stagnates (a

Liver issue) everything else can back up behind it, including water

which can thicken into phlegm which would end up looking like a fat

deposit.

I had a little phlegm nodule appear above my eye a few years ago. I

wasn't so crazy about sticking a needle into it, but I found that a

needle or two pointing toward it inserted nearby really made it shrink.
