Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'm new to the list and I'm excited to learn more about Chinese medicine. I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with(I have to give you a little background info!) Last year a went through a long lay off and wore myself out with worrying, drinking coffee and alcohol, and smoking. Not good, right? I went to see an acupuncturist and she said I had the following: 1. Spleen Qi deficiency 2. Damp heat 3. Liver Qi stagnation 4. Kidney Yang deficiency It made sense to me- I had bad nerves, I was stressed and angry, I had loose stools, poor digestion, and anxiety. I felt constantly tired and my libido was low. My tongue is slightly white with scalloped teeth marks on the sides (malabsorption?) I made some changes to my lifestyle, but got caught in a vicious cycle. The Qi deficiency kept me craving stimulants even though I went cold turkey for long periods of time, took herbs (a bupleurum formula by Seven Forests), and made dietary changes. I know that coffee depletes Yang and wears out the adrenals and kidneys. Anger and alcohol are not good for the liver and create dampness in the stomach. Smoking weakens the lungs, liver, etc. Anyway, over the winter the heat signs seemed to become more cold. Without coffee or alcohol, the heat seemed to go away.(I also got and job and most of my worry and anger diminished.) The swollen tongue, loose stools, and fatigue continued. My acupuncturist now surmised that I had the Spleen Qi deficiency with damp-cold (cold hands and feet) and might even have parasites or bacterial overgrowth (candida). She gave me two herbal formulas by Health Concerns: 1. Quiet Digestion 2. Artestatin (The second formaula contains Qing Hao (wormwood) and is meant to tone the Spleen and Stomach and expel parasites). She also said to drink ginger tea everyday and follow an anti-candida diet (no dairy, sugar, or alcohol). This was in March of this year. It seemed to help somewhat, but not completely. I don't really think I have parasites, so I'm wondering how to proceed. Should I try to deal with the dampness first? The Spleen Qi deficiency? The low energy keeps me feeling tired or dabbling in stimulants for relief. That's the vicious cycle I can't break. I read that raising the Qi should be the first priority, since the dampness will go away once the stomach and lungs are stonger and creating fresh energy/Qi (and hopefully, the craving for stimulants). Eliminating coffee has reduced but not eliminated the loose stools. I also take acidolphilus everyday and do yoga and pranayama in the mornings. I'm reading a lot of books but now feel confused about how to proceed- any suggestions? Xie Xie! Thanks! Rich The New Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo. http://search.
