Is your acupunturist trained in TCM acupuncture? A TCM healer also takes your pulse. This is not like what a Western doctor does as the TCM healer is checking a minimum of 12 pulses. You may want to do a search in the message base for pulse. From the time one walks in the door, a TCM healer is observing various things about the client and analysing. Are the speech and movement rapid (possible Heat imbalance) or slow (possible Cold imbalance). Are the voice and moments overly forceful and loud (possible Excess imbalance) or weak and low (possible Deficiency)? Are there any unsual color tones in the complexion? (Red - Heat or Heart imbalance, pale - Cold or Lung imbalance, green - Liver imbalance, yellow - Spleen (though this also can be Liver in some cases), bluish or black discoloration - Kidneys.) Amy unusual odors? These are just a few of the things the TCM healer are observing. The basics of tongue diagnosis are: Normal tongue - pink. Heat - red. Cold - pale or blue. Purple - Blood Stasis. Reddish purple - Blood Stasis with Heat. Bluish purple - Blood Stasis with Cold. Orangy on the sides - Liver Blood Deficiency. Thick tongue coating - Excess. Absence of tongue coating (especially in center of tongue) - Stomach Yin Deficiency. Thin tongue coating - normal or Deficiency. White tongue coating - normal or Cold. Yellowish tongue coating - Heat. These are a few of the basics. Victoria
Guest guest
Mike, The practitioner should take a patient history of all illness and operations. We have just seen how failure to apply this basic tenet of diagnostic methodology can get us into a real mess with patients and make us look frankly quite amateur if it is neglected. [ e.g. The case of the 'depressed' gelding ] I suggest a simple 'form' as follows: Name | Dob | Sex | Patient presenting with named health concern So for example looking back over your emails : Mike | ?? | male | chronic fatigue, candida-mental problems, excessive sweating, bones feel weak, hungry but do not seem to absorb nutrition. Obviously on the Internet you may wish to keep your privacy so you can have a false name, but Dob and Sex should be honestly related. The patient may then expand or retrace health issues as follows. Again I see you had you gall bladder removed: ???? | Complaint ?? | Diagnosis ?? | Removal of gall bladder | 190 >> 270 wt increase Date | Complaint (include blood markers if available) | Diagnosis if known | Treatment if any | Outcome Date | Complaint (include blood markers if available) | Diagnosis if known | Treatment if any | Outcome Date | Complaint (include blood markers if available) | Diagnosis if known | Treatment if any | Outcome ???? | General debility | Hypo androgenic | testosterone patch | Outcome ?? ???? | General debility | Diabetic ? | diabetes meds | Outcome ?? ???? | General debility | Hypo androgenic | testosterone patch | Outcome ?? Is there anything else we need to know about you ? The TCM doc / TCM educated patient can intesperse this with Date | Condition (TCM pulse/tonge etc) | TCM Diagnosis | Treatment (Acu/Herbs) | Outcome and this can be easily adapted to fit the circumstances:- ???? | General debility | Spleen deficient | ??? herbs not taken | Outcome ?? Date | Condition (TCM pulse/tonge etc) | TCM Diagnosis | Treatment (Acu/Herbs) | Outcome Date | Condition (TCM pulse/tonge etc) | TCM Diagnosis | Treatment (Acu/Herbs) | Outcome It is not perfect by any means but this shorthand helps to identify some things at a glance that otherwise would leave us puzzling over for months. This is especially important when we are corresponding over the net and cannot see the patient. You asked specifically about the acupuncturist " looked at my hands once " . If this is so go and get yourself another TCM doc. The reason being a TCM doc should spend at least one minute examining the pulse on each wrist. There are three wrist positions and three depths to each pulse. Each pulse position represents one of the Organs in the Five Element System with the right and left wrists both having a Kidney pulse. It is a true art to determine accurately the pulse type for each 5ES-Organ and to determine the complex interrelations with the state of the tongue, and to perhaps a lesser extent the face as a whole with its 'orifices' and their condition. If you use the above 'form' remember to leave the | | | in even if you have no data because they serve as place holders and help take in the picture 'at a glance' Cheers, Sammy. mike miller [mikeymiller71] 12 April 2003 00:47 Chinese Traditional Medicine [Chinese Traditional Medicine] tongue analysis question victoria, thanks for your answer to bone density... i was wondering... my accupuncturist analyzes everything that's wrong with my body by my tongue and i think she looked at my hand once. is that a thorough examination for my entire body? i have so many problems i was wondering if she was covering everything... thanks, mike Post message: Chinese Traditional Medicine Subscribe: Chinese Traditional Medicine- Un: Chinese Traditional Medicine- List owner: Chinese Traditional Medicine-owner Shortcut URL to this page: /community/Chinese Traditional Medicine
