Guest guest
> It is said that sweet foods tonify the spleen but diabetics are not > supposed to take sweet foods. Can anyone explain??? From my understanding, the way that sweet foods tonify the spleen are similar to the way that weights tonify the muscles; they provide a mild stress that encourages them to grow stronger. In the same vein, too much sweet damages the spleen in the same way that you can tear muscles trying to lift weights that are too heavy for you. If you are looking for something to support the spleen when consumed in large quantities, Bland foods would probably work out best. Or at least, so it seems to me... > Salty foods can tonify the kidney. However western doctors advise > patients who have hypertension to refrain from salt. Can anyone > explain please? Same difference as with the sweet flavor, a little bit of saltiness stressed the kidneys and they grow stronger... too much overwhelms the kidneys. If you are looking for something that would support the kidneys when consumed in large quantities, Bitter foods might work out alright... On the other hand, I always give bad advice.
