Firing it in

Iused to watch a program on PBS that had a guy named Alexander

painting for a while. you could watch and learn as he painted the

picture. His favorite comment when he had a small amount of paint on

his brush was 'fire it in' I believe that he was talking about a

complete effort on his part to give energy to his paintings. He

would 'fire it in' and the colors on his brush would become trees or

mountains etc. I think this firing it in concept can be applied to

TCM. Everytime we placea needle or touch for accutreatment we

should also 'fire it in'. If you are talking about the terms used for

different types of treatment like 'tonify' bleed' moxa, sedate and

stimulate you are talking about a consious effort to apply the

specific energy to the point being affected. I tend to see colors

when I am treating. One color seems to be to much moxa, and

stimulation of the point is often enough to begin normal meridian

flows. Something that needs bleeding I associate with a yellow or

pusslike look. If I am moxa at a point I will try to see that

darkblueness in the area when I am done. These colors help me with my

treatment. Abalance of the colors usually means no specific color is

apparent and normal flows are there. I don't mean to teach you this

way as people will see different things and colors for use in

treatment. But the concept of 'firing it in' is still important. When

you place a needle or touch a point you can 'fire it in' and have a

specific energy input along with an implied duration for your

treatment. I needle placedin the correct spot will not be as

effective if it is not removed at the correct time. Many points and

durations are experimental in nature. People born in the snake year

have been traditionally difficult to treat due to fluctuations in

point locations. People with a multiple birth factor may experience

symptoms and energies more associated with their siblings. Each

patient has their own style of self-health, and a good doctor will

take time to get to know the patient. It is true that so many of the

health problems associated with both TCM and western Medicine could

be treated if the doctor only saw the patient at the correct time for

the incubation of the patients disease.

'Fire it in' ..just a concept to share with you.
