" I am aware that st41 has been used in the pre western influence for emotional

aspects....maybe Ben Shen GB 13 and Shen ting Du 24? They have the Shen and I

also think it the shen - " spirit " character, however my using them is not because

of there names but because of books publish by paradigm press and what senior

clinicians or other people... Although there naming does help me remember the

possible use for the points but then again I at the moment do not remember the

name of say kidney 4 (which has been recorded in at least one pre modern times

as useful " when want to close doors and be inside all the time i.e.. indoors and

not wanting to go out?) "

St41 is the St chan river point drains/regulate flow of qi in whole channel

which indirectly calms H and indirectly drains sea of marrow (St chan crosses Du

14,26,24 (3 points with specific PsEm actions)).

In the classics, Gb pts are used as auxiliaries- not major psych pts.

Du24 - from Philippe: " a little known point, little used in modern acu. One of

best pts to calm the spirit- ancients named it " spirit courtyard " one of 9

palaces in brain according to taoism - house of spirit. It has numerous

contemporary indications - agitation, stress, depression, insom, me he qi, zang

zao. In the classics - dian, people who think they are possessed, deranged

speech, inclination to shi laughter. Can be used as a calming pt in disease

with heavy pain - analgesic sedative action - calm spirit to calm the pain. "

K4 (Dazhong) is the luo pt of the channel- some of its functions to me look like

K xu and B shi- so I think of it as bringing the shi qi back from the B chanel

to the K. K chan xu leads to fear... so I would think of the person who wants

to stay inside all the time as a K xu social phobic- also the possible B shi

could lead to back pain, headaches, eye pain... This is the best way I know of

to understand the luo pts- look at the relative states of the channel and its

paired channels.

Philippe adds that all wrist points treat psychoem. disorders- I would bet then

that the ankle pts do too... and ST41 which you mentioned is also an ankle pt.

My sources:

1. Philippe Sionneau lecture at Pac Symposium November 2002

2. Robert Chu (see my interview of him in Acu Today for more on him)

3. Peter Deadman's Manual of Acupuncture

Massage(tuina - shiatsu), on the ancient shu points; below the

elbow and the knees, stimulate the connection between coupled

meridians. Enhance the potential and circulation of the chi on

the meridians. The penetration of chi in the meridians. Block

penetration of the pathogenic energies(heat, wind, humidity,

cold) and promote the dissolution and expulsion of the pathogenic

factors already installed. Strengthens the Zhang-Fu.

Massage around the wrist and ankles, where the tonification and

source points are, strenghthens the Organs by the penetration of

Source chi from the kidneys.

That by itself would help many emotional problems which have a

deficiency root; -like 'not wanting to go out of the door', or

wanting to stay indoors all the time. Sometimes we don't see

clear indications in traditional texts of psychoemotional

effects, but we have to look at these the way a chinese (not a

western-minded one though!) would look at it; TCM looks at the

human being differently from the western man does, they don't

separate psychic, emotional physical aspects the way we do, got

to remember that and think of it in terms of Yin-Yang, the Five

elements, generating-controlling cycles, etc...
