Guest guest
Just out of curiosity, can anyone recommend any sites, books, etc. that have addressed Seasonal Affective Disorder from a TCM- perspective? Although it is a Western diagnosis, the fact that it is a seasonal disease (A form of manic-depression almost, brought on by sunlight and the changing seasons) makes me think that perhaps it might have been considered. Are the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder concurrent with any TCM pathologies? Mbanu
Guest guest
SAD is the disorder associated with the Scandinavian areas that don't recieve as much yearly sun right? if doesn't affect any specific organ, more of an overall lack of energy and it also disorients people. Can it be compared to depression? There ways to treat depression in TCM. It could be related to the more serious disorders that cause systems shutdowns such as 'dreamdeath' a severe form of culture shock. Is there is a need to bleed certain meridians to get rid of a coldness and stimulate or tonify to stop the recurrance of the symptom? Is the envelope of the heart affected? The triple burner and a connection to the stomach/envelope of the heart a possibility? In outer space travel this type of problem would manifest itself it seems. There are alot of different sunlight and intake of gasses issues. There is a mystery of the spleen/pancreas connection that may regulate the intake of different gasses as CHI and adjust so we can survive in other atmospheres. The TCM rarely mentions the pancreas as far as I know. Remembering that the early stages of the fetus development seems to reflect different styles of human being( fish, reptile, etc) is interesting also. Our planet has that problem of lack of sunlight in certain areas, depression is the symptom. Green Tea is one possible solution. caring and togetherness would probably help. The disorder may be enhanced by loneliness.
