Guest guest
In TCM, " Exterior " refers to the skin, muscles, bones, head, arms and legs, neck, and meridians. " Interior " refers to the trunk of the body and the Organs. " Pernicious Evils " from the environment (weather conditions, a room that is too hot, too cold, too dry due to the heating or air conditioning system, sitting in front of a fan, the use of a hair dryer, etc.) can invade the Exterior of the body. They may lodge in the Exterior, or they can move to the Interior where they create even more severe problems than when they are in the Exterior. Pernicious Evils (Heat, Cold, Wind, Dampness, Dryness, and Fire) also can originate within the Interior. For example, Blood Deficiency which goes untreated can trigger Interior Wind. The concept of Wind not only refers to the actual wind, but also to changes in barometric pressure and changes in concentrations of ions. Sometimes how rapidly a person is exposed to a Pernicious Evil will influence how badly the person is affected. For example, some people may not be bothered by gradual cooling over a period of days, but will be if the temperature drops a great deal in a short period of time like hours.
