9. Yin Vacuity (Deficiency) with Fire Effulgence

Yang warns, activates, and dries. In contrast, Yin cools, calms, and

moistens.

People who are Yin Deficient tend to feel hot a lot and be

aggitated. They have trouble sitting still.

Another term for Yin Deficiency is Deficiency Heat. The Heat is

coming from there not being enough Yin to cool the body properly.

The part about " with Fire Effulgence " means that the Heat has gone

beyond just being Heat and is very destructive Fire. Fire can be

extremely detructive.

Schnyer and Flaws list the following symptoms:

" Main symptoms: Vertigo and dizziness, heart palpitations, scanty

sleep, heart vexation, easy anger, possible involuntary seminal

emission in men, low back soreness, menstrual irregularities in

women, a red tongue, and a bowstring, fine, and rapid pulse. In

patients (sic) wityh depression, there is lots of anxiety, vexation

and agitation, and restlessness. (p. 55.)

Note: A sore, weak back and knees point to Kidney imbalance. Both

Kidney Yang and Kidney Yin Deficiency as well as Kidney Qi Deficiency

can manifest as a sore, weak back and knees.

List of imbalances taken from Curing Depression Naturally with

Chiense Medicine, Rosa N. Schnyer and Bob Flaws.

This list is by no means complete. These are some of the most common

imbalances.

I want to touch on one that Schnyer and Flaws don't mention.

Possible 6-Stages of Cold-Induced Illness or Virulent Heat Evils.

We're talkin infection here. Some viruses will cause a person to be

depressed. For example, the depression associated with mononucleosis

is due to physical changes such as the increased production of

cytoklines to fight the infection. Obviously in cases of depression

due to viral infection, antidepressants and talking about it are not

going to help. The infection needs to be vanquished.

I'm not sure that something like SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) in

which depression is triggered by the person not getting enough

sunlight would fall under TCM. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

There may be TCM imbalances in people with SAD; I just don't know if

any of them are manifesting as SAD.
