Guest guest
> New to the group. I have sub-clinical hypothyroidism There are a lot of posts in the message base on hypothyroidism. Do a search for hypothyroidism. I have a history of hypothyrodism. The thyroid medication did not do a good job of clearing up my symptoms. In my particular case I also was Kidney Yang Deficient, and I needed Yang tonic herbs and herbs to warm the interior before I got rid of many symptoms. Another poster on here told of being Kidney Yang Deficient and not getting full relief from it until she also was placed on thyroid medication. I suspect that some (not all) cases of hypothyroidism may need both thyroid replacedment AND TCM to be successfully resolved. > symptoms: > -weight gain even during very healthy diets. > -feel tired. > -joint pain. > -mental fog. > -constipation after have been very regular. > and much others... BTW, pain in joints can be due to Wind-Cold-Damp invasion. People who have been Kidney Yang Deficient for a long time can be very suceptible to Exterior weather conditions. Pain in general can point to Qi Stagnation. When Qi is blocked or stagnates, pain can result. Yin Deficiency can cause the pain threshold to be lowered. A deficiency of the mineral magnesium also can cause the pain threshold to be lowered. One way I know when I'm not getting enough Mg is my pillow will feel hard and uncomfortable. Guest guest
Hello Osvaldo, Welcome to the group. There have been discussions of thyroid and hypothyroid disease in the past on this forum. I suggest you do a search on this forum for the old discussions on this subject. I have hypothyroid disease as well, and constipation was a real problem for me until I supplemented with magnesium to bowel tolerance. I have tried many TCM herbs for this problem, with professional help, but nothing touched this problem until I started using magnesium. I did this by taking some until I reached the point of diarrhea. Then I went down to a level where I go every day but have no diarrhea. This will be different in every person. It has made me much calmer too. I hope that you will enjoy learning more about TCM here. I have found many of the herbal formulas to have been health giving and some have even relieved some of my hypothyroid symptoms. Best wishes, Sarah
Guest guest
> http://www.itmonline.org/arts/thyroid.htm Thanks, Jackie. This is an excellent article and very thorough. " In one clinical report on hyperthyroidism [16], investigators determined that the likely causative factors for the 110 patients were: fright, depression, and mental irritability in 84 cases (76.3%), infections in 12 cases, extreme fatigue in 9 cases, and congenital problems in 6 cases. The 26 remaining cases were of undetermined causality. The main cause-emotional distress-has an effect of disturbing the qi. " The Chinese have not studied hypothyroidism, but every time I have developed thyroid problems, I have had a bout of mononucleosis (glandular fever) or a mono-like illness and have been overworked. I was hyperthyroid once, but all the other times I have been hypothyroid. Toward the end of the article, the author goes into vegetables from the Brassica family suppressing thyroid function. This family includes cabbage. I believe brocolli and brussel spounts also belong to this family, but I could be mistakened. Note where the author talks about hypothyroidism possibly being underreported in China. What brought many of the recognized cases to the attention of doctors is not the usual symptoms of hypothyroidism (many of which are also symptoms of Kidney Yang Deficiency), but chronic, low level bronchitis. There is a special case of Kidney Yang Deficiency called Kidneys Refusing to Receive (or Grasp) Qi (from the Lungs). A person suffering from Kidneys Refusing to Grasp Qi will have breathing problems and will tend toward congestion in the lungs and bronchials.
