Guest guest
I understand that a way to apply the 5 healing sounds is to actually intone or sing them to the patient during qigong treatment. There are mudras (hand positions) and even a walking pattern. This practice comes from the Taoistic, shamanistic , pre TCM days, I believe. On the second hand, some people say that underneath the superstition, a valuable practice still resides. On the third hand, some people think that the Healing Sounds are just as useful as they were several thousand years ago, and can often be seen walking around chanting and carrying a pot of cinnabar ink. " In the Tang Dynasty (618-906 A.D.) a medical expert and doctor of TCM, Sun Si-Miao, wrote in the Song of Hygiene about the Six Healing Sounds and can be paraphrased as follows: The Liver and Spring are classified as Wood elements; the Xu sound in the Spring will brighten the eyes and relieve liver stagnation. The Heart and Summer are classified as Fire Elements; the Ke sound in the Summer will relieve fire in the heart. The Lungs and Fall are classified as Metal elements; the Si sound in the Fall will nourish the lungs. The Kidneys and Winter are classified as Water elements; the Chui sound in the Winter will keep the kidneys at ease. The xi sound will regulate the Triple Burner and eliminate annoying heat. The Hu sound during the four seasons will assists the assimilation of food by the spleen. It is not necessary to make any noise when you practice. The benefit is greater than miraculous pills. " (stolen off of (http://www.shouyuliang.com/newsletter/v2n3/v2n3a2.shtml) The Healing Sounds have been popularized somewhat recently on the Internet by certain Daoist orginizations. Doing a Google search on the " Six Healing Sounds " brings back a multitude of sites. Most recommend that they are used in a subvocal manner by the patient. Whether or not this is their original application I do not know. Mbanu
