Guest guest
Does anyone here have experience treating the autism _ Asperger's syndrome spectrum by TCM's diagnosis patterns useing the 8 Principles? and how would those Priciples integrate with the 5 Element/Pathway theory? Was there any abatement of the adventure through therapy? Thanks in advance, Penel
Guest guest
I have worked indirectly with an Asperger's patient. I have referred the question to the primary practitioner - his reply follows. I will add that craniosacral therapy has enhanced acupuncture treatments with this client. I have used the & #34;still point induction & #34; as the client rested with needles and found that this increased his sense of well being and relaxation both during and after the treatments. - Rebecca I have successfully treated one 33 year old male diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. Although my client suffers with Asperger's, I find his situation to of course be unique. He had layered many syndromes on top of his root condition. At the onset of treatment, the patient had created a very excess situation in his body through the use of caffeine and alcohol in attempts to deal with the high levels of anxiety seen in conjunction with Asperger's. This excess condition had advanced to Liver Heat with exhausted Yin, giving him a quick temper as well as extreme constipation - not always associated with Asperger's. After cooling the Liver and purging with a modified Da Cheng Qi Tang, the patient's root manifestations presented more clearly. This patient was textbook Asperger's syndrome after this initial phase of treatment. Although it is a western diagnosis and therefore will not be confined to a single manifestation in terms of TCM, my patient resembles deficiency of Heart and Gallbladder Qi. He presents a malfunctioning Heart that quickly exhausts Heart and Kidney Yin. While nourishing the yin of the Kidneys with Da Bu Yin, I also added Gan Mai Da Zao Tang and Tian Wang Bu Xin Dang. These two were choosen as they are easily accessible in granular form; hence, increasing the likelihood of compliance. Had Ding Zhi Wan been available in granular form, it may have been more suitable. Regardless, the results have been phenomenal. As for acupuncture, I typically use HT 7, KI 3, P 6, KI 1, and SP 6 (excellent for the excessive sex drive). In extremely anxious situations, I added P 8. The patient has also had to comply with a series of lifestyle changes. He has had to eliminate masturbation (which had become excessive due to the extreme deficiency of Kidney Yin), heavy aerobic exercise and caffeine (which were exasperating his Heart Yin deficiency), salt (which would induce Liver Yang rising in his already extreme yin deficient state) and alcohol (which increased his Liver Heat). In addition, he has improved his diet and tries to stay clear of artificial colorings, flavorings and overly processed foods. Lastly, the patient has on recommendation sought out traditional counseling to help establish new ways of handling everyday life situations. The client's obsessive compulsive behaviors and rigid speech patterns have improved vastly. He has been able to become a more flexible individual in his every day schedule and interactions with others. He can now relax or sit quietly. I continue to treat him on a weekly basis and hope to continue to see him grow. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Hi Redecca, Thank you for the input on your's and your associate's experience with a person with Asperger's syndrome. The craniosacral people on a regular bodywork e list as well as web sites for CS make big claims for CS being able to abate many problems with autism. It might be an answer. btw, an acupuncturist teacher of mine had a patient who wore a device in her mouth while she slept so she wouldn't wear her teeth down while she slept. With the first couple teatments with him she had to get a new device each time because her teeth had moved around so much on their own and the device no longer fit her mouth as a result of his acupuncture to her until at last she didn't need one. I also wear one when I sleep. I've been waiting <sigh> Any way, perhaps moving the cranium can happen through methods other than physical manipulation. The letter from your associate I found confusing and not because I still have a difficult time with 8 Principle theory. > giving him a quick temper as well as > extreme constipation - not always associated with > Asperger's. I don't know about " not always " part but appearently it happens enough that tantrums and bowel problems in their children seem to be a major thing many parents of people on the autism spectrum will mention having to deal with. For those on list unfamiliar with the autism spectrum, now mind you I'm no authority here, its been postulated that the coping strategies stem from having too much sensory overload. In Donna William's books on her own experiences inside HFA she mentions self " tapping " on her body to distract herself from the mass attact happening towards her senses. I'm not trying to make excuses for the fellow but perhaps the exersizing and masturbation were his way of " tapping " . Being touched by others seems to be something that causes autistics a lot of anxiety. Temple Grandin writes in her book " Thinking in Pictures " that she uses a " Squeeze Machine " to quiet her HFA influenced nervous system down. A man she mentions wears a wet suit under his clothing for the comforting pressure. But they both find it painful to be hugged by others... In the 5 Element/pathway theory on the subject the attention I've seen so far has been toward the Metal. Metal jitsu but I've been wondering about the kyo. Tell your friend I'm going to keep a record of what he wrote. I've had a gut feeling Heart, or at least something Fire, and perhaps something Wood, as he said, play a very big part in the adventure. Thank you again, Penel
Guest guest
Penel, I hope you and Rebecca will post more as you find out more. Autism is not an uncommon problem. Thanks, Victoria > In the 5 Element/pathway theory on the subject the attention I've seen > so far has been toward the Metal. > Metal jitsu but I've been wondering about the kyo. > Tell your friend I'm going to keep a record of what he wrote. > I've had a gut feeling Heart, or at least something Fire, and perhaps > something Wood, as he said, play a very big part in the adventure. Guest guest
> I'm not trying to make excuses for the fellow but > perhaps the > exersizing and masturbation were his way of > " tapping " . Granted, the compulsive masturbation and excercise were probably a part of his way of coping. As is often the case with self medicating behaviors, these habits aggrevated his condition as both were consuming what little yin he had. He was unable to even produce enough saliva to spit. Once the Kidney Yin has become this deficient, excessive sexual desire arises. The situation becomes a vicious cycle when one acts on these desires. It seems as if the exercise was similar in that his heart would race due to the Heart Yin deficiency and he would feel compelled to run. Running would dry him out as he would lose a lot of body fluids. Again a vicious cycle. It has been an interesting case to observe, and I am amazed at the changes I have seen in such a short time. The patient continues to become better able to function in a variety of situations and is about to live on his own for the first time!!! I would love to learn any thing you discover in your research!!! R HotJobs - Search new jobs daily now http://hotjobs./
