Guest guest
" Nature " Sea point " Earth point " Tonification point " (The acupuncture students on the list will understand what is meant by a " sea " point. For now keep in mind that special points called " Transport " or " Element " points are between the tips of the fingers and elbows, and between the tips of the toes and the knees. " Earth " is an Element term. " Sea " points are at or near elbows and knees. The Qi is " vast, slow. Movement is inward. centripetal " (Maciocia, The Foundations of , p. 336 (from drawing).) " Action " Expels exterior Wind " Clears Heat " Cools Blood " Resolves Dampness " REgulates Nutritive Qi and Blood " Benefits the sinews and joints " Comments " This point has an extremely wide-ranging action, influencing the Exterior as well as the Interior, in many different types of conditions. " Firstly, it expels exterior Wind-Heat and can therefore be used in the same way as Hegu L.I.-4 in invasions of exteior Wind-Heat with fever, chills, stiff neck, sweating, runny nose and aches in the body. The main difference between these two points is that L.I.-4 has a specific action on the face, which L.I.-11 does not have. " L.I.-11 also clears Heat in general and can be used in interior Heat patterns of virtually any organ and with any fever of internal origin. It is very frequently used in Liver-Fire patterns with hypertension. " (Some points are specific for removing Heat from a particular Organ. LI 4 removes Heat from a variety of Organs.) " It also cools the Blood and is therefore widely used in skin diseases due to Heat in the Blood, such as urticaria, psoriasis and eczema. " L.I.-11 resolves Dampness, particularly Damp-Heat and can therefore be used in such patterns occurring in any part of the body. For example, Damp-Heat causing skin eruptions or acne, Damp-Heat in the Spleen with digestive symptoms, or Damp-Heat in the urinary system causing cystitis or urethritis. It can also be used in invasions of exterior Damp-Heat causing fever, feeling of heaviness, loose stools, abdominal distention, and so on. " L.I.-1 is also used for goitre as a swelling of the thyroid is considered a form of Phlegm. " Finally, L.I.-11 benefits the sinews and joints , which means that it can be used in Painful Obstruction Syndrome, Atrophy syndrome and sequelae of Wind-stroke paralysis, particularly of the arms and shulders.
