Does this in any way coorespond to a western model? Erik Aponte Faith Hill - Exclusive Performances, Videos & More http://faith.

The 3 Jiao's basically refer to the cavities that contain all the organs of the body. In this sense, San Jiao relates to a system that harmonizes the body. I see SJ relating to what is called in physiology, the " internal environment " . The internal environment refers to the interstitial fluids of the body. These fluids surround all the cells and organs of the body and determine their level of homeostasis. A function in oriental medicine for SJ (triple warmer) is to regulate water passages. This relates to the interstitial fluids. Another function of SJ is to transport Qi and fluids through the 'Cou' of the body. The Cou are all the spaces in between cells and organs. This relates again to interstitial fluids. So in my view, SJ is an environment that connects the 3 cavities of the body. It is an environment that surrounds the cells and organs. Pericardium, the related channel to SJ, relates to the pericardium organ that surrounds the heart. The pericardium organ is the only one among the channel names that actually surrounds another organ. In this way, it supports the view that SJ and Pc both relate to environments that surround and ultimately harmonize the systems of the body. The interstitial fluids are primarily controlled by the hypothalamus which is traversed by SJ channel and the divergent of Pc. So if there turns out to be an organ that officially is said to relate to SJ, in my view, it will be the hypothalamus. - Ed
