Guest guest
Taken from " Comments On Acupuncture Treatment of Diseases According to Seasonal Conditions in The Internal Classic " , World Journal of Acupuncture Moxibustion, Vol. 10, No. 3, September, 2000: " Performing Reinforcing or Reducing Needling Manipulations in accordance with the Waxing and Wanning of the Moon Plain Questions says that " the proper needling manipulation adopted should be based on changing regularities of the sun, moon and stars, When the moon appears, blood and qi essence starts to generate, the wei qi starts to circulate. When the moon becomes full, blood and qi gets flourishing and the muscle gets stronger. If wanning moon appears, the muscle becomes weaker, the meridians are insufficient, the wei-qi goes away and the body is in a lower functional state " . Therefore, " the reducing needling manipulation is not suitable to be used in the period of moon rising; the reinforcing needling manipulation not suitable to be adopted in the period of full moon; and the acupuncture should not given during moon wanning. This means that the body's functional activities are regulated in the light of the time. " This is because that reducing needling manipulation adopted during rising of the sun and moon may worsen the hypofunction of the internal organs; reinforcing needling adopted during full moon may lead to hyperfunction of blood and qi. Blood stasis in the collaterals of the meridian suggests severe excess syndrome. If acupuncture treatment is given during moon wanning, it is called as disturbing meridians. If one is confused unconsciously in identifying yin and yang, misunderstanding the genuine qi and pathogenic factors, wrongly using reducing or reinforcing manipulations, the body's superficial deficiency and internal disorder will appear and the pathogenic factors will indulge in wan ton massacre. For this reason, " acupuncture treatment should be given in line with the waxing or wanning of the moon, waiting for shallow or deep flowing of qi and regulating functional activity of the body " . Along with changes of the time and combining with clinical manifestations and patient's physique conditions, reducing or reinforcing needling manipulation is determined to be applied, for avoiding deteriorating the state of disease. The sea-water has its regular morning and evening tides due to the influence of the moon's gravitational force. The human body's physiological activity also has a similar rhythmic changes because of the same moon's action. Modern researches demonstrate that some periodical rhythms in the organism often change weekly or monthly, and are associated with the specific moon-phases (including crescent, the first quarter and the third quarter of the moon and full moon). That proves that the contents about performing acupuncture according to waxing and wanning of the moon in The Internal Classic are worthy of being excavated further. " Hope this helps, Mbanu
