Hi Heidi,

The " pressure points " are called acupoints. They are found on

pathways of energy flow called " meridians " or " channels " . There are

12 main meridians - Liver, Gall Bladder, Heart, Small Intestine,

Triple Heater, Pericardium, Spleen, Stomach, Lungs, Large Intestine,

Kidneys, and Bladder. In addition, there are 8 Extraordinary

meridians that sometimes are used in healing.

The Chinese consider a " balanced " meal to be one which contains all 5

flavors - sour, bitter, sweet, pungent, and salty. Later on you'll

learn that particualr flavors (tastes) tend to have particular

properties and an affinity for particular Organs and meridians. For

example, the salty taste is associated with the Kidneys, and sweet

with the Spleen. (Names of Chinese Organs are capitalized between

they don't correspond completely to anatomical organs, but rather are

collections of functions.)

The earliest messages in the message group are the most basic and

will walk readers through the fundamentals of TCM (Traditional

). Don't worry about understanding everything at

once. Just get maximum exposure.

I addition, the message group has a search function so you can search

for particular topics - like diet, meridians, headache, etc.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask further questions.

Victoria
