Guest guest
Hiccups are one of the most " studied " diseases in folk medicine that I've ever seen. The abdominal breathing is a long term investment and long term solution; I understand. Holding the breath for as long as possible (you might feel a hiccup come up--keep holding to suppress it--but hold with the diaphragm and not the throat/neck muscles!) can work in a mild case. One really wierd technique that seems to work, though I don't recommend it, is to take some sugar on your tongue (I always used white sugar when I did this; my mother was not fully aware of sugar's effects) and swallow it with some water in a big gulp. A tsp. of peanut butter is claimed to have the same effect. Dunno much about a TCM cure though. On a side note, if you want more on hiccup " medicine " a whole list of folk remedies and a lot of other wierd facts, try this site: http://members.tripod.com/~Barefoot_Lass/index-4.html Chinese Traditional Medicine, " T.
