Guest guest
Drinking water is something that's concerned me for awhile. Here's my suggestion: 1) The number 1 rule for drinking is to learn to listen to how your body reacts to water. There is no better test or measure of effectiveness. This is one of the foundation of Chinese medicine that differentiates it from western medicine- individual awareness. Not textbook learning and cure-everyone answers. 2) Generally, water with meals is contraindicated in most cases, but if you generally suffer from a dry stomach, a little might help you. Realize, foods that absorb water when cooked are putting water in your stomach. This counts toward your water consumption!! Again, be aware. 3) Drinking 'til the urine is clear usually means you are running to the bathroom every hour. Let me rock your world a bit--get into that " clear urine " drinking habit and then urinate in a white paper or clear plastic/glass cup. You might find your urine isn't as " clear " as it looks going into the bowl! Some QiGong masters say keep your drinking so that you urine no more than 4x/day. I say drink when your body needs it. You can usually tell this point by the water having a remarkable flavor and feeling when it goes into you. If only your mouth feels dry but your body feels hydrated, don't feel compelled to swallow the water. You don't have to. Intake of food, which is considered a " deoxydizing " and therefore a " yang " condition, so some masters say, when it dries out your system by absorbing water from it if it makes you feel thirsty. You may be overeating or not getting enough water retaining foods. This is just advice. Take it with a grain of salt. I love to drink water, and drink a lot all day. Guest guest
Hi Everybody, I've been a silent member for months and this is the first time that I write here. From Dr. Mercola's site, I've learnt that there is a very good book talking about the importance of water and how the intake of water influences our body. Though the author is a western doctor and does not mention anything about TCM in his book, I think it is a very good book. I believe that the issue of body hydration and dehydration is relevant to our TCM theory of fluid physiology and pathology. It is also an indicator of the balance of the yin and yang within human body. It is closely related to the functions of the Lung, Spleen, Kidney and Bladder. The name of the book is " Your Body's Many Cries for Water " and the author is Fereydoon Batmanghelidj. You can read part of its content at amazon.com. It's worth taking a look to it!
