Guest guest
" Damp is intimately linked with Earth, and thus with the Spleen, the crucial activities of which affect every aspect of bodily functioning. " (Fluid Physiology and Pathology in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Steven Clavey, p. 226.) The Spleen - along with the Lungs - are most responsible for Qi in the body. It's that snowballing thing again. If the Spleen is weak, it can't help to insure adequate Qi for the rest of the body. More Dampness accumulates because the Spleen Qi is inadequate to transforming and transporting fluids (and food). The increased Dampness further damages the Spleen. In time, the Dampness can trigger Qi Stagnation of what Qi there is. There are a number of other roles the Spleen Qi plays. Like keeping internal organs in place instead of prolapsing. Like keeping the Blood in the vessels. Etc. For centuries there has been a debate in Chinese medicine concerning which is the most important in health and illness, the Spleen or the Kidneys. They both are very important to overall good health and the avoidance of illness. Victoria
