Guest guest
Five TCM syndromes which can manifest as frequent urination are Urinary Bladder Damp Heat, Kidney Yin Deficiency, Failing Kidney Consolidation (Kidney Yang Deficiency), Lung and Spleen Qi Deficiency, and Liver Qi Blockage. Failing Kidney Consolidation is a subtype of Kidney Yang Deficiency. Particular TCM syndromes can have many manifestations. In this case the accent is very much on the frequent, clear, profuse urination. " Frequent clear and profuse urination, possibly with incontinence, associated with characteristic symptoms of Kidney yang deficiency such as weak aching lower back and knees, cold limbs, tinnitus, pale face, pale flabby tongue with a thin white coat, and a deep thready weak pulse, especially at the proximal (chi) position. " (Fluid Physiology and Pathology in Traditional , Steven Clavey, p.95.) Incontinence is very probable. Note the thin tongue coating. Thin (and even absent) tongue coatings are characteristic of conditions which are either normal or Deficient. Thick tongue coatings are indicative of Excess conditions, problems caused by there being too much of something. Problems with the back and knees are characteristic of Kidney imbalance (as are problems with the ears and hearing). If the urine is clear and profuse and the person has problems with cold, this points to Kidney Yang Deficiency. If the urine is yellow and scanty and the person has problems with heat , this points to Yin Deficiency. Kidney Qi Deficiency also can manifest with problems with the back and knees.
