Guest guest
The 5 possible underlying causes of frequent urinaion are Urinary Bladder Damp Heat, Kidney Yin Deficiency, Failing Kidney Consolidation (Kidney Yang Deficiency), Lung and Spleen Qi Deficiency, and Liver Qi Blockage. Deficiency problems are caused by there not being enough of something. (Excess problems are caused by there being too much of something.) Yin cools, calms, and moistens. In the case of Deficiency Heat (aka Yin Deficiency), the person is too Hot because there is not enough Yin to cool the body properly. This is Deficiency Heat. Kidney Yin Deficiency: " Frequent but scanty yellow urine with sensations of burning or difficulty, and characteristic symptoms of yin deficiency such as malar flush, insomnia, tinnitus, dry throat, hot flushes worse in the afternoon or evening, heat in the palms, soles and center of the chest, aching of the lower back and knees, spermatorrhea, red tongue with little or no coat, and thready rapid pulse. " (Fluid Physiology and Pathology in Traditional , Steven Clavey, p. 95.) Also note that Yin moistens. This will be important when one looks at the differences between the treatments for Urinary Damp Heat and for Kidney Yin Deficiency. Liver and Kidney Yin Deficiency can manifest as incontinence. " Gradual onset of urinary incontinence with scanty yellow urine and characteristic symptoms of Liver and Kidney yin deficiency such as tinnitus, vertigo, malar flush, a sensation of dryness and grittiness in the eyes, aching weak lower back and legs, nightsweats, constipation with dry stool, thirst which is relatively easily quenched, red tongue and little or no coat, and a thready rapid and somewhat wiry pulse. " (Clavey, pp. 99-100.) Victoria
