Guest guest
Short of blindly picking one off an internet list or out of a phone book is there a way to get a reliable acupuncture recommendation? I live about 30 miles west of chicago. In advance, thanks for your help. Bonnie

Guest guest
The list at acupuncture.com is limited to two kinds of practitioners. The first group is practitioners who belong to TCM friendly professional organizations (Those that promote TCM rather than the weekend seminars in medical acupuncture). The second group are those who don't belong to organizations but have sent in a case review or written an article for acupuncture.com that proves that they are operating at an equivelant level of TCM as required by the professional organizations. There's actually a nice little blurb about how to find a practitioner that is somewhat generic, but applicable to anybody who demonstrates your concern. You can read it here: http://Acupuncture.com/faq.htm#4 -al. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, Since you live about 30 miles west of Chicago perhaps you might want to consider contacting either of the 2 acupuncture colleges in Chicago, Mid West and Pacific. Aside from the possibility that they'd refer graduates, consider seeing someone on faculty. My experience when I've seen acupuncturists is that no matter how much I'm suffering I'm still asking questions and wanting answers. I've found that faculty tend to be more ready with verbal explanations. Hey, some teachers just don't turn off teaching. It is their nature. My practice is shiatsu using 5 Elements for assessment. How acupuncture is taught in most schools with a Chinese model and 5 Element isn't usually stressed as much as the 8 Principles. What I've done is find acupuncturists who have taught with TCM as a model but also Japanese acupuncture and meridian energetic methods so they know where my questions are coming from. Blessed keep, Penel in Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood
