The Color Code: A Revolutionary Eating Plan for Optimum Health by

James A. Joseph, Ph.D., Danikel A. Nadeau, M.D/. and Anne

Underwood,ISBN 0-7868-6721-3.

Some Western scientists and doctors are beginning to catch onto the

healing properties of certain colors (of phytochemicals) in foods like

the carotenoids found in yellow and orange foods and the anthocyanins

found in red, blue, and purple foods.

The correspondences between the Western research and TCM are not

exact, but one of the closest is the relationship between green foods

such as spinach and preserving eyesight. (In TCM the color green is

associated with the Liver/ Gall Bladder, the season of spring, and the

eyes among other things.)

The Color Code takes a look at red foods (tend to ward off cancer),

orange foods (tend to promote heart health, yellow (some reduce

hypertension), green (eye sight), and blue or purple (which often

protect the brain).

One food that both Western and TCM herbalists may want to take a

closer look at is blueberries for their property of not only being

able to prevent certain age-related changes to the brain but also

reverse some damage once it has occured.
