Coral Calcium, general pH/TCM question

Has anyone here taken or known someone who's taken Coral Calcium

supplements? Is it a quack or what? Is it really better than the more

ordinary calcium supplements?

I ask this because while nutrient deficiency is not a TCM diagnosis, (a

good TCM diet should correct all such imbalances anyway, I would

imagine,) part of the general claims of the Coral Calcium doctors are

body pH (alkaline is better, most all diseases, esp. cancer, are

symptoms of acidosis), and the creation of an alkaline environment

where electricity can flow freely and there is everpresent oxygen. So

what I am also asking is, is there a general opinion that (according to

modern diagnostics) so called " healthy " people by the standards of

internal energy have alkaline body environments?

Can't the question of needing a more alkaline diet vs. a more acidic diet

simply be viewed in terms of needing a more Yin diet for Heat ... or a more

Yang diet for Cold?

I love the simplicity of ... acid is Heat/Yang ... alkaline

is Cold/Yin .... one would need more acidity (Heat to counteract Cold)

whereas one would need more alkaline (Cold to counteract Heat).

I'm doing this from memory so I can't remember the name of the book I

read several years ago. According to it (and personal experience)

many people do better on a more alkaline diet but some do better on a

more acidic diet. (I'm one of the latter.)

Even though there are buffering systems in the body to keep pH within

narrow ranges (like the pH of the blood), diet often can make a

difference in how good or how poorly some people feel. (See the

previous post on how citrus fruits or juices taken on an empty

stomach can trigger an alkaline reaction in the stomach.)

PH can affect how readily and easily certain minerals are absorbed

both by people and plants. When people take too many antiacids, they

can reduce the absorption of certain minerals such as iron. Likewise,

soils that are too alkaline will hold tightly to iron in the soil,

and the iron will be unavailable to plants. When signs of iron

deficiency is present in plants (especially fruit trees), sometimes

it's not enough just to add iron to the soil. The soil pH also needs

to be lowered so the soil will release the iron to the plants instead

of holding it tightly.

PH can be a factor not only in some physical problems and symptoms

but some psychological ones as well. For example, one symptom of

respiratory alkalosis is anxiety and even panic. A number of things

can trigger respiratory alkalosis in which problems are caused by

there being too much oxygen and not enough carbon dioxide.

Hyperventilation is a common trigger. When a person hyperventilates -

either purposely (like kids sometimes do) or because of allergies or

because of nervousness or whatever - oxygen level rises and carbon

dioxide level falls. Paradoxically, the person feels like s/he is not

getting enough air and will breathe harder and faster. This causes

the oxygen level to rise and the CO2 level to fall even more which

causes the person to feel even more desperate for air. Anxiety and a

full-blown panic attack can result. Relief usually can be obtained

by holding one's breath or breathing into a paper bag as this will

cause the oxygen level to fall and carbon dioxide level to rise.

Some people do better on more alkaline diets while others do better

on more acidic diets. Like so many things, it varies greatly

according to the individual.
