Guest guest
From my past Yoga background I remember that fasting is highly cherished to help cleanse the body of toxins and return the body to " even keel " , what is the TCM opinion on this? I tried to look up some info online but mainly what I come across is in regard to diabetics and their blood. For digestive issues, would TCM recommend this as a course of action? To settle everything and let the body try and restore balance?
Guest guest
Hi c_kozielec, Our Nutrition instructor taught that fasting was good. Even tho the class was TCM Nutrition he often borrowed this from other philosophies. One of our Chinese teachers believes in it under certain conditions. Like everything else in TCM I believe in depends on the individual and there are a number of things to consider. A good source would be " Healing With Whole Foods - Oriental Traditions and Modern Nutrition " by Paul Pritchford. He covers fasting. Personally, I think one must be careful. While it is ancient wisdom and definitely has value. Ancient might be the operative would here. Life is far from what it was or far from what it is for buddhist monks or yogis. With many people under stress from life or poor nutrition/diet and toxic overload this might be just one more stress for the body. Folks with depleted adrenals, for one, it is a definite no-no. For symptoms of adrenal depletion: http://www.myvits.com/bodymech/bodymech-adrenals.htm Kit At 05:38 PM 4/15/02 +0000, you wrote: From my past Yoga background I remember that fasting is highly cherished to help cleanse the body of toxins and return the body to " even keel " , what is the TCM opinion on this?
