Guest guest
Does anyone know of what having a lot of tension and stress in the legs is a symptom? I can be very relaxed, with a very slow heart rate (maybe 60-70 beats a minute) but lately, unless I'm in meditation, I feel large amount of tension in my legs. It's not so much like muscle tension, but more like a physical manifestation of anxiety in the legs, mostly the thighs even though the upper body is relaxed. I considered it might be a circulation issue, but I've been doing a fair amount of jogging and leg stretching everyday, in addition to Tai Chi that involves a lot of weight shifting between the legs and feet, which I imagine would stimulate them. It'd be useful to know your tcm presentation. Your tongue + other symtoms / your main constitutional weakness. > I considered > it might be a circulation issue, but I've been doing > a fair amount of > jogging and leg stretching everyday, in addition to > Tai Chi that > involves a lot of weight shifting between the legs > and feet, which I > imagine would stimulate them. Sure it would, but it's still a circulation problem. You wouldn't have any of these sensations if your circulation were perfect. Do you feel cold anywhere or is it entirely an anxious feeling? Any feeling fo heat or swelling? Is the anxiety manifested as twitching of the feet and toes? When is it worse? Guest guest
This could be some cold in your channels. Does the problem go away after a warm shower or bath? If so, we've at least determined the problem. -al. lr4444lr wrote: > > Does anyone know of what having a lot of tension and stress in the legs > is a symptom? Guest guest
Nope, nope, never any twitching and I don't think there's any noticeable cold. I can however make a little bit of warmth by straightening and tensing the legs voluntarily. I've felt a lot of mental stress lately in the past few months which resulted in lots of stomach problems and mental fuzziness, lack of concentration, memory not so great as I've posted before. But physically it really feels as though it's going to the legs rather than anywhere else. I also create temporary but strong numbness in the lower legs (not where most of this anxiety is felt,) from daily sitting in seiza position. Of course, I try to balance myself well for doing it, but it's a toughie to maintain without any effects from the compression. Though like I said--it's usually the lower legs that get the brunt of that temporary discomfort. Not my problem area. Guest guest
That's the problem. It's not new. I've been doing this for months. The only thing I've done recently that's " new " is daily practice of Tai Chi movements which focus heavily on shifting the weight from one foot to the other, back and forth, and alternately " rolling " the feet resulting in raising the back heel or front toe. Would this cause it? Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Guest guest
Do you think it is a " qi sensation " ? The movements you are doing can increase the movement and absorption of qi especially up from yongchuan, KD1. And sitting in seiza alot, it may not be moving/dispersing to the rest of the body. Can you ask your teacher? They may have seen this before and can give subtle adjustments. The slightest change can make a huge difference. Can you take it easy? Daily sounds like alot for the body to get used to a new movement. Best wishes, sounds like you are doing great work and working hard in the movement arts. That's why " gong fu " translates to " working hard " . ;-) Deb - lr4444lr <lr4444lr <Chinese Traditional Medicine > Saturday, April 06, 2002 4:03 PM [Chinese Traditional Medicine] Re: Crazy leg tension... > That's the problem.
