Each of the Organs have one or more emotions which they are particularly

vulnerble to and which imbalance in that Organ will tend to create. For

example, the Liver is particularly vulnerable to damage from anger, and once

the Liver is in imbalance (from whatever initial cause - emotions, drugs,

toxins, infection, trauma, etc.) the person will be more prone to being

angry. The Kidneys are particularly vulnerable to fear and fright, and once

the Kidneys are in imbalance, the person is more prone to feeling fear.

There are improperly handled and/or long term emotions. What the emotions

do is to effect Qi and direction of Qi flow.

From Maciocia, The Foundations of , p. 132:

" Fear depletes Kidney-Qi, and it makes Qi descend. The 'Simple Questions'

in chapter 39 says: " Fear depletes the Essence, it blocks the Upper

Burner, " (Heart and Lungs) " which makes Qi descend to the Lower Burner "

" In my opion, however, fear has a different effect in children and adults.

In children it makes Qi sescend causing nocturnal enuresis. " (bed-wetting)

" This common problem in children is often caused by fear or a feeling of

insecurity in the child due to some family situation.

" In adults, however, fear and chronic anxiety more often cause deficiency of

Kidney-Yin and rising of Empty-Heat " (Deficiency Heat - Yin Deficiency)

" within the Heart, with a feeling of heat in the face, night sweating,

palpitations and a dry mouth and throat. "

My notes: Fear is not the only thing which can cause Kidney Qi to descend.

Certain foods - like carrots - also can do this. So if one has a kid who is

a bed-wetter, consider that the cause may not be fear but carrots served at

supper or carrot cake served for desert or a nightly snack.
