Guest guest
For those new to TCM: Bob Flaws is fond of citing " Same disease, different treatments; different diseases, same treatment. What TCM healers diagnose and treat are TCM imbalances. TCM imbalances very rarely correspond to Western-defined medical problems. The classic example is asthma. What the West calls asthma can have one or more of several TCM imbalances. What helps one asthmatic may do nothing for a second and even make a third worse. Same disease, different treatments. On the other hand, two people may have very different diseases but have the same TCM imbalance - in which case, the treatment would be the same. Different diseases, same treatment. There are a limited number of TCM imbalances that will be seen with a particular disorder. For example, I believe there are 6 different TCM imbalances which will be seen in people who have peptic ulcers. The Web That Has No Weaver goes into this in more detail.
