There are three ways: " a) Needling the Source points (see page 345) on the twelve channels; " b) Needling and applying moxa to the points on the Directing Vessel " (aka Conception Vessel) " below the navel, such as Yinjiao Ren-7, Qihai Ren-6, Shimen Ren-5 and Guangyuan Ren-4; c) Needling and applying moxa to the point Mingmen Du-4 " (Governing Vessel), " which corresponds to the place from which the Original Qi originates. " Note: Du-4 is a very powerful point for treating Yang Deficiency, and it is recommended that this point not be worked if the person is not Yang Deficient AND Cold without Heat. If there is Heat anywhere in the body (like for example Damp Heat in the Intestines), use of this point will aggravate the Heat. (p. 469) The Source point of the Triple Burner, TB-4 can be used with the Source point of the Stomach, St-42 to tonify Qi and Original Qi. (p. 347) The best herb for tonifying Original Qi is Ren Shen, aka Radix (root of) Ginseng, aka Panax ginseng. If anyone has a list of other herbs which will tonify Original Qi, please post it as I could not find the information.
