It helps a body expel the pathogenic Cold. The cold must be caused from Wind-Cold for it to be effective. If the cold is a Wind-Heat type cold or Cold that has transformed into Heat, fresh ginger tea will make it worse. Dry ginger is used for warming the interior. Both are good for phlegm but the phlegm needs to be caused from Cold. It will be white or clear. If the phlegm is yellow, it would indicate that heat is involved in some way and any type of ginger would make it worse. Fresh ginger is used for Cold-Phlegm caused by an External pathogenic Cold. Dry ginger is used for phlegm that is chronic in nature and caused by Internal Deficiency. With chronic deficiency sans a pathogenic influence (an external condition), one must use diaphoretics (as in fresh ginger) cautiously. Guest guest
I have a question that I hope someone out there can clarify for me. I was wondering if drinking fresh ginger slices in a tea is good for symptoms of colds and if it would help with phlegm. I thought this might have more of a diuretic function. Would dried ginger ground up and drunk as a tea have a more tonic function? I would be very happy if someone could clear this up for me. Thanks. E.
