Guest guest
Posture can affect Qi flow in the Conception and Governing Vessels. When your 4th grade teacher kept telling you to sit up straight, she was giving you some sound advice from both a Western and a TCM standpoint. As far as I'm concerned, not enough attention is paid in the U.S. to identifying, correcting, and preventing abnormal curvatures of the spine. They eventually can trigger a host of problems from a chiropractic standpoint, from a Western medicine standpoint, and from a TCM standpoint. BTW, posture problems also can be diagnostic in TCM. If a person sits and stands all slumped over, suspect Qi Deficiency problems. If a person prefers to sleep in a fetal position, suspect Yang Deficiency. One of the major impacts of poor posture and/or certain sleeping positions is breathing problems. For example, Kidneys Refusing to Receive Qi is a type of Yang Deficiency imbalance which results in breathing problems. The catch-22 is that Yang Deficient people frequently prefer to sleep curled up in a fetal position, and this aggravates the breathing problems even more. If they force themselves to straighten out while sleeping - or at least while dropping off to sleep - this can ease the breathing problems some. Guest guest
Posture has to do with a lot of other things (from both a Western and TCM standpoint). In TCM, there are Four Foundations of the human body. Blood, Nourishment, Energy, and Resistance (Protective Energy). Blood and Nourishment are Yin, whose main purpose is to NOURISH and strengthen the Yang Energy and Resistance are Yang, whose main purpose is to PROTECT and direct the Yin Protective Energy (Wei Qi) is the energy which surrounds the body and serves as a deflector of energetic as well as tangible pathogenic factors. It is also a means of information exchange between all living cells of the body and the surrounding environment. Hence, when posture is bad (mental or physical), the protective sphere surrounding the body will also be out of wack. This can be detected with Aura photography, or by someone with highly trained eyes. Wei Qi is also divided into three categories, which also relate directly to the Three Treasures of Man: Jing (Essence), Qi (Energy), and Shen (Spirit) http://www.lieske.com/5e-weiqi.htm Lee Lieske - Judy Fitzgerald Chinese Traditional Medicine Monday, September 03, 2001 4:41 PM [Chinese Traditional Medicine] Posture can affect Qi flow in the Conception & Governing Vessels Posture can affect Qi flow in the Conception and Governing Vessels.
