Part 3 deals with TCM herbal strategies for Wasting and Thirsting Syndrome.

Deficiency Heat is another term for Yin Deficiency with marked signs of

Heat. Yin cools and calms the body. If there is not enough Yin to cool the

body properly, the result is Heat. Deficiency Heat is Heat caused by a

Deficiency, specifically Yin Deficiency. (Deficiency Cold is Cold caused by

there not being enough Yang to warm the body properly, and is another term

for Yang Deficiency with very marked Cold symptoms.)

Excess Heat is Heat coming from there being too much of something which

Heats - too many spicy foods and herbs with warming energy, too much Yang

energy, Qi Stagnation, etc. (Qi is warm in nature, and when Qi gets blocked

or Stagnates, Heat build-up often is the result. Think of a pressure

cooker. Because a lot of the air can't escape and because the contents are

under pressure, heat builds up inside the pressure cooker. When one lives

at high altitudes (where air pressure is less than at sea level), a pressure

cooker is the only way to insure that food will be heated to 212 F, 100 C.

Otherwise, water will boil before it reaches 212 F or 100 C, and pathogens

won't be killed. Without a pressure cooker, the temperature of the food

inside the pot never gets high enough at high altitudes to destroy

pathogens. Something similar can happen when Qi is blocked in the body.

Heat can build up and create health problems. This is classified as Excess

Heat in TCM since its Root is there being too much of something. Any Qi

Stagnation is too much.)
