Guest guest
I hope some of the acupunturists on the list can answer your question about how frequently points can be cupped, in particular Stomach 25 and Spleen 15. For those new to TCM, cupping is a special technique in which instead of needles, the acupunturist uses cups. A small cotton ball is burned inside the upside down cup. This burns the oxygen out, and when the cup is placed over an acupoint, the lack of air in the cup creates a vacuum which pulls the skin up into the cup. It also causes blood to flow to the area, and it an get red. When I was researching allegies and TCM treatments, I ran across a reference to using cupping over the navel. I'd like to know how frequently cupping can be used. I am intersted in asking a question about cupping. I am interested in how often a particular point can be cupped. In particular I am interested in cupping Stomach-25 and Spleen-15 to clear Damp-Heat from the Middle Jiao. Regards, Benji.Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Guest guest
Hi Benji ! Cupping is more complex from what its usually believed to be. and can be applyed to many different pathologies. There is a very good book which is only about cupping, its name is: " Traditional Cupping Therapy \by Ilkay Zihni Chirali " Published by 'Churchill Livingstone'. It speaks about 10 methods of cupping, some methods are for Draining and some for Tonifying. For the abdomen weak to medium cupping should be used. 20min or 10min for weak adults. as for the frequency its say: " in chinese hospitals cupping is applied every day until the patient gets better. ten sessions are considered as one course, and a week of rest is given between courses. In the west however once a week in considered the normal frequncy.. " (this was not specific for abdominal cupping but generaly) though if the cupping is strong and there is a strong bruise sign, one should wait until it disappear to cup the same point again. If you really want to get into cupping i highly recommand this book. Danny .L
