Here's some more information on Chinese medicinal porridges.

This is another way of taking herbs besides decoctions, pills, and

tinctures. Medicinal porridges sometimes are better absorbed and utilized

for some conditions than when taken in teas, pills, or tinctures. Plus,

there are some herbs which work better for some things when taken with food.

You'll notice that sometimes salt is an ingredient, sometimes not. When

salt is added to a medicinal porridge it's to direct healing to the Kidneys.

The salty flavor has an affinity for the Kidneys. The instructions on

some herbal pills for the Kidneys is to take with a small amount of salt or

salt water.

Rice is considered a very supportive food for those who are weakened.
