Guest guest
Judy, are you aware of any patients who get kidney troubles from taking chinese herbs? not from the herb per se, but from the sheer bulk of herbs sometimes prescribed , say 100 grams per day? is it possible to gum up the kidneys with the tannins ? Guest guest
Sorry to be so slow answering this, but have been getting caught up with some other things. >are you aware of any patients who get kidney troubles from taking chinese >herbs? I know of some cases where kidney and liver damage have resulted from herbs wrongly prescribed. These have been in Europe for the most part. I'll try to find you one article that was on the Internet and forward it. This is why I stress learning the TCM syndromes and the TCM contraindications. In some of the cases of damage the herbs were used in the correct dosages but were not being used as they were supposed to be used. They were included in one-size-fits-all formulas for things they're never used for in TCM. In other cases the dosages were way too high. BTW, people of Asian ancestary frequently can tolerate higher dosages of many herbs than Caucasians can. In some cases herbs were mixed with prescription drugs and other substances. >not from the herb per se, but from the sheer bulk of herbs sometimes >prescribed , say 100 grams per day? Anything taken in excess can hurt people. For example, too much water can cause severe problems, including irregular heart beat and psychosis, if the person tanks up on water without eating. The electrolytes in the blood become too diluted and causes the problems. This applies to anyone. If electrolytes become too diluted in people prone to epilepsy, it can trigger a seizure in these people. 100 grams per day is a fairly high dose. Sometimes people need that or more but I would question someone being on that amount of herbs per day for an indefinite amount of time. >is it possible to gum up the kidneys with the tannins ? I need to do some research into tannins. Victoria _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
