OT: Study finds genetics affects response of asthmatics to drug

One thing I've talked about is how Western medicine doesn't differentiate

between subsets of asthmatics. All asthma drugs are supposed to be equally

effective for all asthmatics. This differs from the TCM approach in which

it is recognized that asthma is a possible manifestation of different TCM

syndromes, and the treatment that helps one asthmatic may do nothing for a

second or even hurt a third.

Now there is news that Western medicine is starting to consider that " one

size fits all " therapy does not always work when it comes to asthma.

Researchers are looking at genetic differences and believe that these may be

used to predict when a medication will be effective for an individual

asthmatic.

This is not the same as differentiating according to TCM syndromes, but it

is a major step by Western medicine in recognizing that one-size-fits-all

does not fit all.
