The >element progression is Metal to Water to Wood to Fire to Earth as one >moves from the fingertips. According to the " Classic of Difficulties " the Well point (point near the tip of the fingers or toes) belong to Wood in the Yin meridians (and do follow the Wood-Fire-Earth-Metal-Water progression). However, the Well points of the Yang meridians belong to Metal (and follow a Metal-Water-Wood-Fire-Earth progression. The second point, the Spring Point, belongs to Water in Yang meridians and to Fire in Yin meridians. In using the Five Transporting Points to tonify (add energy) and release (remove energy), one follows the Mother-Son rule. There was a post a few weeks ago about the Mother-Son Rule. In review for other readers it was when we were talking about Wood generating Fire which generates Earth which generates Metal which generates Water which generates Wood. It's a cycle. If you tonify the Mother, you automatically tonify the Son. For example, if you add energy to the Kidneys, you automatically add energy to the Son because Water is the Mother of Wood. Likewise, if you take energy from the Son, you take energy from the Mother. So if you reduce energy in the Liver, you automatically reduce energy in the Kidney. The 5 Transporting Points of each meridian are also called Element points. Each meridian will have a Wood point, a Fire point, an Earth point, a Metal point, and a Water point. Let's say for example my Small Intestine meridian is really Deficient in energy, and I need to add energy to it. The Small Intestine meridian is a Fire meridian. The Mother of Fire is Wood, so I find the Wood point of the Small Intestine which happens to be SI 3. If I needed to reduce energy in the Small Intestine I would find the Earth point because Earth is the Son of Fire. The Earth point of the SI meridian is SI8. If I wanted to tonify the Lung meridian (a Metal meridian), I would use L 9 because this is the Earth point of the Lung meridian, and Earth is the Mother of Metal. If I wanted to sedate the Lung meridian, I would use L 5, the Water point of the Lung meridian because Water is the Son of Metal. I'll be posting more on this later. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm a new member and happy to be part of the group. My question: The 5 Shu points of the three Yang meridians of the hand proceed from Wood to Fire to Earth to Metal to Water as one moves from the fingertips. But the points proceed with a different element progression when the use of tonification and sedation are applied to these points. The element progression is Metal to Water to Wood to Fire to Earth as one moves from the fingertips. Why are there two different ways to apply the elements to these points? The first progression with the Shu points, where Wood starts from the fingertips, feels intuitively to be the true way. ed lambert
