Guest guest
The 8 Principal Patterns of TCM Diagnosis are Exterior/ Interior, Excess/ Deficiency, Hot/ Cold, and Yang/Yin. Review of pulse diagnosis: Floating usually means Exterior condition, sinking means Interior condition, strong pulses are associated with Excess conditions, weak pulses most often signify a Deficiency condition, a rapid pulse almost always means Heat in the body, and a slow pulse usually means Cold in the body. Heat and Cold can arise from Excess as in the person being too Hot or too Cold because temperatures around the body are excessively hot or cold (Exterior) and may even invade the body (Interior). Eating too many foods or taking too many herbs with heating energy can cause Excess Heat in the Interior. Likewise, eating too many raw foods or eating or taking too much food and/or herbs with cooling energy can cause Excess Cold. Deficiency Cold and Heat arise because there is not enough of the proper kind of energy in the body. Yang energy is warming. When Yang is Deficient, there is not enough Yang to warm the body properly and Deficiency Cold results. Yin cools and calms. When there is not enough Yin energy in the body, Deficiency Heat (and aggitation) result.
