Here is a very long but thorough article from the Journal of Chinese

Medicine on headaches and their treatment in TCM.

If you want to specialize in treating headaches, or, if you're one of those

people with frequent or chronic headaches, this article is a must-read.

The article goes into not just the usual points for headache relief but into

lesser-known points for headache relief. These are the points that can

vanquish the worst, most persistent headaches that often respond to little

in the way of Western medicine or the more well-known acupoints for

headache. In addition, the article tells you some about WHY these

lesser-known points work for specific types of headaches. (In addition,

consult Maciocia's Foundations book for more insight into why certain points

are effective.)

I noticed that some of the points I discovered on my own (like Small

Intestine 3) that got rid of my headaches are profiled in this article. In

addition, there is some info on Gallbladder 41 that I want to explore in

more detail. (I have noticed that in the worst headaches I have, the area

around GB 41 is always very sore.)

This article - like so many in the JCM - can seem a bit overwhelming at

first because it is so thorough and long. This is not an article that

people who suffer from occasional, mild headaches that easily can be stopped

by well-known acupoints or aspirin or feverfew will want to wade through.

But, for people with intractable and very severe headaches that occur

frequently and for healers who are apt to see a lot of people suffering from

headaches from many different causes, this article is a gold mine of

information.
