The need to practice on oneself

If you are learning acupuncture and/or acupressure, you need to practice on

yourself. Otherwise, you are never going to understand what is happening

and just how powerful acupuncture and acupressure can be.

When you practice on yourself, you can feel things that will increase your

understand of acupoints. For example, while working a point it is not

uncommon to feel twinges and other sensations in other parts of the body.

This is giving you insights into flows of energy within the body.

Also, you do not want to stick needles in willy-nilly as in " let's see what

sticking the needles in here will do. " There are acupoints on the body that

can sicken, knock a person out, and even kill. Some of these points are

used in some of the martial arts. In some martial arts, students are taught

not only to use these points but what points to use to relieve the effects

of the attack points. If you knock somebody unconscious using one of these

points you need to know how to bring the person back to consciousness. Or,

in some cases, how to stop a progression toward death.

When you are studying herbalism, most herbalism courses require at some

point in your training that you taste the herbs you will be prescribing for

others and note their thermal energy, their taste(s), and any effects the

herbs have on you.

For Dr. Sam:

Looks like you're good at curing a headache, long as you started it

yourself <G>!
