>(?sp) GV20, which is right in the middle of the head, very spiritual point,

>good for balance but will also work on hemorrhoids.

According to Maciocia, GV 20's actions are:

" Clears the mind

Lifts the spirit

Tonifies Yang

Strenghtens the ascending function of the Spleen

Eliminates interior Wind

Promotes resuscitation " (Foundations, p. 471)

The " strenghtens the ascending function of the Spleen " is why this point can

be used on hemorrhoids. In TCM, prolapse of organs (stomach, uterus, etc.)

and hemorrhoids often have a Root of Sinking Spleen Qi. Spleen Qi is

supposed to ascend, and GV 20 is one of the points that can be used to

encourage it to rise.

GV 20 is also the meeting point of all the Yang channels and the point of

the Sea of Marrow. I'll be going into the Sea of Marrow in a future post.

In TCM, Marrow has a different meaning from what it does in English.

" This is a meeting point of all the Yang channels which carry clear Yang to

the head: it therefore has a powerful effect in stimulating the ascending

of Yang and clearing of the mind. " (pp. 471 - 472) It's also good for

lifting the spirits if someone is depressed.

The contraindications for this point is do NOT use with moxa when 1). there

are Heat symptoms within the body and 2). the person has high blood

pressure.
