Guest guest
At my mundane job one of the hats I wear is interpreter for the Deaf employees. Perhaps this explanation might illustrate what Victoria said. If you draw a circle with Fire on the top and evenly space the other 4 Elements (or better described as Pathways) around the circle in clock wise movement; Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood, what you would have before you is a pattern of how each Element/pathway feeds (also called being Mother to) the next. Now within the circle, from Metal draw an arrow to Wood, Wood an arrow to Earth, Earth an arrow to Water, Water an arrow to Fire, and Fire an arrow to Metal. What you have before you, a pentagram of sorts, describes the controlling cycle (or how a Pathway can restraint another). Within this system there are many ways for an imbalance to be determined and I think Victoria has given more than a casual explanation of the diagnosis process. Visualize this, a circle again. In places of excess Energy you will find a bulge. There will be compensatory dents in the circle to show where Energy is not supported. The idea isn't so much to make a perfect circle but to make the circle habitable. We are each a refection of the universe expressing itself. Our " imbalances " are reciprocal movement of the Tao; yang to yin and yin to yang. A series of stretches one can do to isolate each Element as a Pathway and feel its qualities can be found at <http://www.rianvisser.nl/shiatsu/e_doin.htm> Penel

And thanks for the link. I've tried a couple of the exercises (definitely need to do these regularly) and printed out the exercises so I can try each of them later. For readers new to the list: Wood: Liver and Gallbladder meridians/ organ systems Fire: Heart and Small Intestine. Pericardium and Triple Heater. (There are 4 fire meridians/ organ systems, so there are two Fire exercises on the page.) Earth: Spleen and Stomach. Metal: Lung and Large Intestine. Water: Kidney and Bladder.
