My books don't go into contraindications for acupressure and acupuncture too

much, so anytime you know of contraindications please list them.

Thanks,

Victoria

Dear Group,

Sorry to be posting so much today.

I called my medical malpractice company, and they say I am covered for

acupuncture....just like any medical doctor would be.

However, prudence would dictate that I begin small and work up to

needles.

My understanding is that acupuncture works best; acupressure is second

best, but it is generally limited to only one point at a time.

In the Lhasa catalog I see cups that one twists into place (some have

magnets, some don't); others are made of glass on which you you use a

suction pump.

I'm wondering if using cupping jars on lots of points at the same time

might be more effective than deep acupressure on just one point at a

time.

Shane --- I know you are an " ear " man. Do the press-on " acu-dots " or

" acu-pegs " work almost as well as needles, in your experience?

Cupping in my opinion is not advisable in all cases. Especially in Yin

Deficient people. It is a pretty powerful tool. Just curious have you ever

cupped anyone, it is one of my favorite things to do. It took me a bit to

get the hang of it. Ears are my least favorite but that is what we use at

the hospital so we can certify people to perform the technique who are not

acupuncturists or MD's.

When the doctor at work added acupuncture to her insurance it almost doubled

because they did not approve of unconventional techniques. So you are very

lucky that yours did not change.

I am not familiar with your reference to the acu-dots and/or pegs. But I bet

they are the same as the gold pellets that I use some times. Or as my 5 year

old told the daycare teacher " they are my balls " . I was using them on the

Shenman point in the ear when he was 4 because he had so much energy I wanted

to chill him out and I forgot to remove them prior to him going to daycare.

They were a bit amused at the 4 year old telling them about acupuncture,

reiki, singing bowls, his herbs so on and so on. I asked them to call me

before they call child protective services. teeeeheeeeee

That point is really good to place a pellet on in ADD or ADHD kids instead of

Ritlin which just burns their little brains out. And it works. (the ear

Shenman not Heart 7, however I am sure either would work)

Oh also on the cups I don't like the suction cups with the pump they do not

stay on as well I do not think. I use the cheap glass jars and an open flame

with a little " Po Sum On " Oil or coconut oil.

Thanks for this info in particular. If Heart 7 (Spirit Gate or Mind Gate)

works just as well on ADD or ADHD kids, H7 is fairly easy to find.

The directions I have say place your right thumb on the left inside wrist

crease in line with the little finger. H7 is in " the hollow in the crease

direcly below your little finger. " (Acupressure's Potent Points, p. 135)

This is another of the points Gach says can be used in insomnia.

Maciocia gives more info. Its primary use is to nourish Heart Blood. Some of

the manifestations of Heart Blood Deficiency are " anxiety, insomnia, poor

memory, palpitations, and a Pale tongue. " (Foundations, p. 401) Wicke

mentions " insomnia characterized by difficulty falling asleep, but once

asleep does not frequently reawaken; excessive dreaming. " (vol. 1, p. 101)

If H7 can help a kid to chill out (like the ear point), I can picture

mothers saying, " Go sit in the corner and hold Heart 7! " I'd try it.<G>

>Do you ever sleep................teeeeheeeee

A lot as a matter of fact.<G>

During the summer there's a 3-hour time difference between here and the East

coast and a two hour time difference between here and the central area

because AZ doesn't go on Daylight Savings Time. It used to get the attention

of friends and family in the East when they'd see the late time on posts

given as EDT when it was really much earlier here.

As one person said about the reason AZ doesn't go on DST, why would

Arizonians want an extra hour of daylight when it's 105 at sunset? As it is

a lot of areas of the state don't cool down below 90 until after midnight.
